Noam Perski is the visionary founder and CEO of JamesList, now the world's largest online luxury marketplace, launched in 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden. After leading pioneering Internet startups in Scandinavia, Perski spent five years working full time on HIV and other global health issues in Geneva, Switzerland, before launching JamesList, which has since expanded to open offices in Marbella, Spain with representation in London, Frankfurt, Singapore and Miami. "Given the recent roller-coaster of currency and market fluctuations, we saw an opportunity to give serious buyers the tools they need to find premium goods at the best possible price, regardless of where they are in the world," Perski says.

The brilliantly-designed site works with a network of more than 400 professional dealers around the world, from Dallas to Dubai, to list more than 35,000 jets, yachts, luxury cars, motorcycles, helicopters and timepieces - including five prized watches priced at $1 million or more - for sale. Where else can you find a dozen $30 million-plus superyachts, 30 Bugatti Veyrons, 80 Ducatis, 700 Ferraris and 900 Patek Philippes all in one place? There's even a special section listing over 600 customized models, like the $2 million Spanish "supercar art", from across the luxury spectrum. In the gallery, Perski reveals his 10 essential luxuries, from classic cars to custom Rolexes and his pick for the best hotel in Europe, and explains what makes them a must.

Ten Ways To Order Thanksgiving Dinner Online

The other day I read that AmazonFresh, the grocery arm of Amazon.com will be delivering an entire Thanksgiving meal for people in the Seattle area. A total prepared meal serving up to eight people costs $80 and sides, desserts, turkeys and other items can also be ordered separately to be delivered on Nov. 25 and 26. If you aren't in Seattle, your best bet may be a local grocery store especially if you want specialty items like a tofurkey or an organic or free range bird (Whole Foods has a great holiday menu). Many stores do offer prepared meals and some will even deliver. But there is also a growing crop of turkey dinners that you can order around the U.S. online. You'll pay anywhere from around $70 to over $200 depending on how many sides you want and how many people you need to serve. Thanksgiving dinner in a click? Check out the gallery below for ten options.

ELuxury Says Farewell To Paper Catalogs

The common wisdom used to be that in order to sell luxury products you need a thick glossy catalog with glamour shots of the merchandise on heavyweight paper. But today with the growing push toward green measures companies are finding that the beautiful catalogs can be a business liability. ELuxury.com is the latest business to ditch the catalog. They have announced they are replacing the 270,000 catalogs they send out each year with more comprehensive style look books online.

Amazon To Start Selling Wine

Amazon has pretty well established itself as one of the best (if not the best) online place to buy, well, anything and everything -- except for wine. Until now.

The online wine business is a tricky one, and in recent years many a good business effort has 'gone under' as a result. Amazon's specific plans for wine sales are a little fuzzy at this point, all we know is that they're going to "build an entirely new selection from the ground up" and that they plan to add both wine and beer to a small pilot grocery delivery service running out of Seattle. I think it sounds really convenient, good luck to them.

Wine Retailers Face Tough Internet Laws

As much as I believe we should support our local wine stores, sometimes there are wines that you can't get from the local stores. In moments like that it would seem logical to turn to the internet. Unfortunately for people in many states, out-of-state internet retailers are not allowed to sell wine. While in 2005, the Supreme Court opened up the rules regarding letting wineries ship out of state. A total of 36 states and the District of Columbia allow wineries to ship directly to residents in some capacity. The rules however, do not apply to retailers. As this LA Times article states, retailers can ship to just 14 states, and that will drop to 13 this summer. There is even a possibility that California, which produces the most wine and has the least rules on selling it, could the list. There is already a law on the books that stops Californias from buying wine from out-of-state retailers. The state attorney general's office has currently put a hold on the law to give wine associations the chance to persuade lawmakers to change the laws.

Wine wholesalers and distributors are against any relaxing of the laws and say the laws help reduce access by minors. One the other side, the retailers say that allowing consumers to order directly gives them more choice and can save them money. i think most wine lovers would be in favor of laws that open wine sales over the internet but often many people aren't aware of these laws until they try to order a bottle and find themselves locked out.

The Ultimate Airline Perk: In-Flight Email Access

No matter how rich you are and no matter what kind of perks the airlines may offer you in first class to make your flight more comfortable, there's one thing that they've never offered no matter who you are: mid-flight wi-fi internet access.

JetBlue is changing that. They aren't offering enough bandwidth to surf the net necessarily, but just enough to make checking and sending emails through Blackberries and other devices, even laptops, possible. The new perk is now being offered on select flights only, on a trial basis. But JetBlue expects within about six months to be rolling out internet access company-wide.

Wines 'Til Sold Out

For the most part, I've felt pretty much left out of the Woot phenomenon. I love a good deal and am a sucker for an impulse buy but a new gadget doesn't always light my fire. Woot has now launched Wine Woot where they offer a California wine per week at a deal price. But for more instant internet satisfaction check out Wines 'Til Sold Out which offers wines from around the world, one at a time for ridiculously tempting prices (30-70% off regular prices). The wine goes on sale at 12AM and each wine lasts only one day. If you purchase two or three bottles FedEx Ground shipping is free. Alas, FedEx only ships wine to 20 states. You can sign up for their newsletter to be alerted of each day's new deal and have a chance to buy it before it goes out of stock. Now if someone does this for purses, I'll really be in trouble.

A Television Channel Just For Scotch Whisky

singlemalttvA whole television channel devoted to Scotch? Film producer Rob Draper has created Singlemalt.tv, the world's first internet television channel dedicated to single malt Scotch whisky. Hosted by author and expert Charlie MacLean, the channel hopes to appeal to whisky lovers around the world. According to an article in the Scotsman, Draper feels that niche interest TV channels online will be a magnet for advertisers (reminds me of the flurry over niche blogs a few years back). The channel has crews lined up around the world and plans to do features on a variety of scotch-related subjects. The channel officially launches on September 29 but there is a trailer up on the site now.

JetBlue to Offer Internet In-Flight

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

JetBlue Airways, which offers discounted fares but lots of appealing perks, has just won a 1 megahertz wireless license from the FCC with a bid of $7 million. This means that the company will be able to offer wireless air-ground internet access, which it plans to do shortly, and other on-board communication services to fliers. It has not yet been determined whether cellphone usage will be allowed any time soon, though it is possible under the new service package. In any event, opening up the option to work online will be a huge boon to business travelers.

Surfing the internet will also be a good choice for those traveling for pleasure. For example, instead of watching the in-flight film, you could be reading Luxist!

Will Car Buying Go Virtual?

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

According to the company Leadpile.com in a press release, more and more luxury car buying is going online. The company has an interest in the issue because they sell luxury cars via the internet, though they do make some strong points in their argument. Luxury car buyers are looking for stylish vehicles that offer comfort and convenience, and car dealerships could not be considered to be as convenient as shopping from your computer at home. The question is really whether the shoppers will miss the interaction and attention at upscale dealerships, which, in some locations, can rival the level of service received at posh salons.

With buyers who prize both comfort and convenience, it would make sense that they would put the comforts of being pampered at a high-class dealership above the convenience of shopping online. If convenience alone was the issue, they might not hold out for a luxury car in the first place.
