Lafitte Guest House Up For Sale

It seems that nearly every residence of a certain age in New Orleans comes with reports of ghosts and the Lafitte Guest House is no exception. The Bourbon Street boutique hotel is a three-story guest house with 14 restored guest rooms with private baths. HauntedHouses.com says the house is home to several spirits including the ghost of a little girl who died of yellow fever.

What might be scarier however are the reviews the guest house has received on Trip Advisor lately which may be one reason that the charming property is up for sale. Some of the guest rooms have distressed brick walls and many have private balconies. It has a small courtyard and can host up to 50 people for weddings and other events. It is listed at $3.8 million.

Benbow Inn For Sale

Filed under: Journeys, Real Estate Developments

Another beautiful California hotel has hit the market and this is one I've had the pleasure of visiting. Tucked along the 101 freeway in Humboldt County, the Benbow Inn is a surprising slice of English countryside amidst the redwoods. The Victorian style inn has 54 rooms and a cozy lobby with a fireplace perfect for spending Humboldt's sometimes rainy afternoons.

The inn has been in existence since 1926 and has its own exit on the 101 freeway. It has hosted politicians and old Hollywood according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle. It has a timeless feel and situated as it is in such quiet environs, it's very easy to let the modern world slip away. In fact that may be part of the problem, the resort is located three-and-a-half hours from San Francisco, the next big city. You can fly into the Arcata airport in McKinleyville but that is located over an hour north and so the inn mainly appeals to those making their way along the 101 freeway on a journey elsewhere.

The Benbow Inn became the Benbow Hotel & Resort in 2004. There is a nine-hole golf course and an RV park located across the freeway from the hotel and connected by a walkway under the highway. The resort is listed for $13.25 million.

Many people might not be thinking of buying a restaurant or hotel right now but Château du Sureau is a pretty tempting package. The hotel, also known as the Estate by the Elderberries is located in Oakhurst, California at the Sierra Mountain foothills just miles from the southern gate of Yosemite National Park, 4 hours from LA, 3.5 hours from San Francisco. The manor-style 10-room hotel has a grand staircase, leaded glass windows and rooms with antiques, canopy beds, fireplaces, tapestries, and large soaking tubs. The grounds include a pool, pond, bocce court, gazebo, and a giant chessboard. A two-bedroom, French-style villa is at the far end of the estate. The property includes the Elderberry House restaurant which has hand-stenciled beamed cathedral ceilings and a fireplace and the Spa du Sureau which is an art-deco style retreat. The luxury retreat is known for being an expensive (rates start around $400 a night) yet charming place to stay. You can continue the legacy for $12 million.
