The Hotel Lutetia is 100 years old, and the Parisian institution is celebrating the entire year with enough activities in history, arts, jazz and literature to fill a horn-of-plenty. Four of its Rotonde suites have been turned into art galleries featuring the works of four contemporary photographers – Elliott Erwitt is included among them, a European photographer who has captured people great and small in their minor moments. Later this month, the Lutetia will be one of the venues for the Parcours St. Germain contemporary art walk.

The hotel's piano bar will be doing jazz every evening from Wednesday to Saturday, and on May 21 the hotel will host André Ceccarelli for the St. Germain jazz festival. Saturdays will see weekly readings by the Les Mots Parleurs Association, and reading rooms for kids. The "Lutetia Secrets" package could be the best way to take advantage: starting at $300 per night with a minimum of three nights, that will take care of your room, breakfast buffet, Lutetia Secrets insider's guide to St. Germain, and a private tour of the behind-the-scenes areas of the hotel. The activities and specials run through December 31, 21010. As if you needed any more reasons to spend three nights in Paris...

Hotel Lutetia Introduces a Fumoir as Rewarding As Your Rocky Patel

For the past couple of years, if you were a Gitanes- or cigar-smoking guest at the Hotel Lutetia you needed to take your hand-wrapped hobby outdoors to enjoy. With the opening of the hotel's Fumoir, that is no longer the case. After celebrating 100 years in service, the Lutetia decided to make the next 100 a little kinder to those who are compelled by the ciggie and corona.

The Fumoir has replaced the hotel's grill room a few steps from the Brasserie, and in an odd bit of nomenclature is known as "The Kitchen" – perhaps because of the stove hood that now serves air extraction duty. Bedecked in the "sun-drenched" colors of Havana but still wit that darkly Parisian ambiance, leather divans and armchairs accompany stained wood fixtures and L'Ernestine, the hotels humidor-cum-artwork that's been out of commission for the dark and unlit years. Finally, if you're in Paris, you're welcome to come back in from la froid.
