Luella Boston Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Sleek, stylish and incredibly appropriate for the start of the Triple Crown racing season, which kicks off next weekend with the 132nd annual Kentucky Derby, the Luella Boston Satchel might be the perfect bag to take to the races. Actually, its textured navy leather would be difficult to match to the appropriate hat if you are actually going to be at the Derby, so perhaps the bag is best used for everyday wear. It is quite roomy at  9 x 14 x 7-inches and has a suede lining with two interior pockets. The thoroughbred design on the front of the bag is applique and all the detailing is done in gold. Price: $975.

Diamond Animal Charms for Pet Lovers

Andrea Levine Horse Charm $450It can be difficult for pet lovers to find elegant animal themed jewelery or other decorative items. Too often, the only options are either inexpensive or poorly made. Though inexpensive is not always a bad thing, sometimes a purple plastic cat charm is not the most appropriate accessory. Andrea Levine decided to fill the market gap with some beautiful pet charms. The pave-style diamond charms are available in yellow and white gold, with a variety of colored diamond options. There is a cat charm, two horse charms and 19 different dog breed charms to choose from, and the charm can be attached to anything from cuff links to a pendent necklace.

Celebrity Jockey Silks Auctioned

Celebrities are putting their artistic skill to good use for charity. They are decorating jockey silks - the brightly colored shirts and caps worn by jockeys during horse races - that are being auctioned online to raise money for the Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, England. The silks will be displayed to the public at the World Museum Liverpool until April 30th, as the winners of the auction are not to be announced until May 12th.

Richard Branson and Yoko Ono, contributing one of John Lennon's designs, are among the participating celebs. The silk illustrated here was designed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey. The rest of the silks can be viewed online, where bids will also be taken.

World's Most Expensive Colt Sold At Auction

The world's most expensive colt was sold at auction yesterday. A nameless Florida-born colt went for  $16 million at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens. Why so much? The Miami Herald reports that the two-year-old has two Derby winners in his bloodline and showed off to prospective buyers by having the fastest workout time of the 154 horses up for bid. The winner was  Irish racing magnate Demi O'Byrne who purchased the horse as part of a team of buyers. The horse will have a lot to live up to but will probably be able to earn his keep through breeding even if he isn't a Triple Crown winner. The handsome horse with the white blaze on his nose will definitely be raced and could run in the 2007 Kentucky Derby. Good bloodlines are no guarantee but I hope we learn the name of this horse soon so that I can follow his progress.
