Karl Lagerfeld, Cake Decorator?

From what I know of the nouveau-skinny fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, he doesn't eat a lot. Sure he used to in indulge back in his zafitg fan-flapping days but that was before he fell in love with Hedi Slimane's clothes and dieted himself down to fit them. So you can understand my surprise at the news that Lagerfeld had designed a cake. But lo and behold, he has collaborated with Parisian baker Lenôtre to create a unique Buche de Noel. The holiday log is made of gingerbread with almonds and hazelnuts filled with a compote of sweet orange and apricot and a chocolate coulis. It comes in a mirrored box with a tiny ax made of hard sugar.

Brad Pitt's 'Make It Right' Foundation, Charity of the Day

Filed under: Charity, Charity of the Day

Brad Pitt's Make It Right foundation is geared towards helping hurricane Katrina victims rebuild in New Orleans. Brad is putting a call out to all American families to be generous and giving this Christmas season by donating to the cause and helping New Orleans families as they fight "the fight of the their lives." The biggest focus of the efforts is rebuilding the homes that were lost, and doing it in a speedy and environmentally conscious way.

Donating to the cause is a great gift, either as a straight monetary amount given in a loved one's name or through giving them a t-shirt or hat to promote and support the cause.

750 Swag Bag

Who would like to get a bag full of money for Christmas? Me! Although I'll be honest and say I'd like it much better if it wasn't just full of $1 bills like this 750 Swag Bag from Money. But it's a good looking all-purpose leather tote bag that would make a great gift for almost anybody. Made of fine Italian leather, it features 18k gold-plated zips from Japan, the cute gorilla logo in an understated outline and, of course, an inner lining made of genuine $1 bills. A true "money bag." Plus you can always grab a dollar if you need a pack of gum or something and don't want to use a card. £799

Too bad it doesn't come with the vase, teak seat and great shale-colored tile... I would do a bathroom makeover in an instant!

LuxList: Unique Gift Card and Gift Certificate Options for the Holidays

Gift cards and certificates are one of the most popular holiday gifts. And why not, they are easy to get, easy to use, and save you from buying something the other person doesn't really want or need. The only problem with gift cards is that the average gift card to one of the big stores can sometimes seem a little impersonal and well, boring, for both the giver and the receiver. One solution is to head off the beaten path a bit and pick an unusual gift card or certificate. It's a little riskier but it's also exciting to buy something for someone that they would never choose for themselves but would really enjoy.

One fun option for men and women is getting them a gift certificate to race car driving school or to rent an exotic sports car. There are a variety of these types of options around the country. In New York for example, Gotham Dream Cars offers gift certificates that let you rent a Ferrari, Lamborghini or other cars or even take their Dream Car Tour that lets you try out six cars from a Bentley to a Lamborghini Murcielago in one fast and fun afternoon. The Dream Car Tour costs $895.

The need for speed can be best satisfied safely on a race course. L.A. Racing at the Irwindale Speedway outside of Los Angeles offers a variety of programs that get you out driving a NASCAR stock car at Irwindale Speedway on the 1/2 mile 12 degree banked oval. Many race tracks across the country have similar programs.

Check out the gallery below for ten more options for the person who has everything.

High-End Retailers Seeing A Slow Down

There has been a definite slow down in the spending habits of the average American consumer this holiday season, and although the super rich weren't predicted to be affected the modestly rich, or "aspirational consumers," were another story. They were expected to slow down with the rest of us, and it seems those predictions were right on. Some of the biggest retailers catering to both the very wealthy and the merely "well-off" are making note of major slow-downs -- and even a loss of some of their customer base as many of their lower-income clientele retreat from stores like Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom to Kohl's and JCPenny's.

Are you spending less this holiday season?

What Do Billionaires Want For Christmas?

Filed under: Gadgets, Yachts & Sailing

What does a billionaire want for Christmas? And what does he or she buy for billionaire friends and family? Obviously anybody with that much money already has pretty much everything that can be bought with said money, so it should be no surprise that on the top of the list is one of the few things that can't: time spent with family. Yacht charters, ski trips, and other family vacations are some of the hottest items this holiday season, but other popular gifts for the uber-wealthy include commissioned biographies and personalized gifts to unique or meaningful charities.

And of course there's always that guy who wants the NM Gem Triton 1000 Submarine for $1,440,000. Go figure.
