Highland Park Lunar Offering Whisky

The Highland Park whisky distillery has a unique offering. We've seen 12-year, 30-year and all other sorts of Scotch but what about an 18 3/5 year old whisky? Their Lunar Bottling was done in honor of the first Lunar Nutation of the 21st century. The moon has two cycles, the monthly was and wane and this larger cycle. The moon will not return to this point again until 2025. The whisky was matured in 40% first fill sherry oak casks and bottled at 45.1% abv. The tasting profile describes it as having a toffee sweetness and a smoky finish. There are 500 of these bottles available and they sell for around $132.

Highland Park Estate of the Day Sold

We don't often get to know what happens to the estates we feature but this beauty in Highland Park, Illinois, which we learned last week was the former home of insurance mogul/scam artist Michael Segal has been sold. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the home has sold for $19 million ($3 million under the asking price) to Orren Pickell Designers & Builders. The deal is not final yet but the proceeds from the home and other assets are going to pay off the creditors from his former company, Near North Insurance. Orren Pickell Designers & Builders builds and remodels luxury homes in the Chicago area and there is the possibility that the mansion could be torn down and the property subdivided. The City of Highland Park has been trying to make this classic Howard van Doren Shaw home with a Jens Jensen landscape design a landmark to prevent this from happening.

Highland Park Estate, Estate of the Day

Like yesterday's estate this home in Highland Park, Illinois gives you a chance to check out an impressive art collection in situ. This home, which was built in the 1920s by Howard van Doren Shaw, has Lake Michigan views and 17 acres of space. The grounds were landscaped by Jens Jensen and include winding paths, gardens and a gazebo. The home has seven bedrooms with three fireplaces.
