Henri Bendel Launches New Signature Scents

I was a fan of the previous Henri Bendel signature line (the rare mimosa was my favorite) so I'm curious about the new line from the luxury department store Henri Bendel. Last year Henri Bendel decided to stop selling clothing and focus on accessories and beauty products. The store has launched a new line of six signature scents with very tempting scent descriptions. Rose & Oud is described as girly but glam with strawberry leaves, violet, sugary pink jasmine and a balance of oud. Gardenia & Vanilla is a a subtle and soft scent that gently seduces with peach blossoms, lily of the valley, fresh gardenia, and vanilla. A little peppier is the Persian Lime & Pepper which has notes of Rio red grapefruit, bold black pepper and sweet-scented basil. Sunny citrus enlivens Orange Blossom & Jasmine which has sugary Clementine, tangy tangerine, and bouquets of Sumatra lily. Patcchouli fleur and lotus blossoms give Incense & Musk its exotic profile.Grapefruit & Vetiver is tangy and tart but balanced by cooling cypress and mellowed musk. All the scents sell for $65 for a 50 ml Eau de Parfum.

I wrote about headbands once before on Luxist, and didn't expect to again. But then I found these pretty accessories at Henri Bendel and thought they'd be nice for a holiday or New Year's fete. Cara Couture's Satin & Crystal Headbands feature offset crystal and pearl adornments and come in four colors: gray, $88; red, $78; black, $88; and purple, $118.

Henri Bendel To Stop Selling Clothing

New York department store Henri Bendel has a new way to deal with the economy. The store, which is part of Limited Brands, will stop selling clothing, switching focus to accessories and beauty products. With less merchandise the Fifth Avenue store will need less room and so it will give up one of its three floors. Around 20 people will be laid off in the transition.

Beauty and small gift products are still selling well or at least better than expensive clothing as more people "shop their closets" rather than heading to the stores. Limited is trying to get the most out of the Bendel brand, Years ago they came out with a line of Bendel-branded perfumes sold through their Bath & Bodyworks stores. That line has been discontinued but Bath & Bodyworks still sells Henri Bendel candles.

The NY Times says that a "more mall-like chain" of smaller stores selling Bendel-branded beauty and gift items is planned with six accessories-only stores set to open in shopping centers this year. It seems a terrible dilution of an esteemed brand which began over 100 years ago, rendering it a meaningless name.

We love the Art Deco inspired Henri Bendel No. 7 Quilted Shoulder Bag in Periwinkle.

This bag, described as "rocker chic," combines the softness and delicacy of periwinkle (everyone's favorite Crayola Crayon) with the edge of steel. The hardware comes in silver for the periwinkle version, as well as the cream and red. The black and blue ink versions come with brassy yellow gold toned chains and logo.

Design Student's Painting Becomes A Bendel's Sweater

Luxury department store Henri Bendel has partnered with an art school to create a new offering for fall. Henri Bendel and the Savannah College of Art and Design's Working Class Studio have created a floral printed cashmere sweater for the Fall 2008 limited edition cashmere collection. The ¾ length scoop neck sweater gets its design from a painting of poppies by a SCAD artist and will available it two jewel tones--purple and pink.The "SCAD Working Class Studio for Henri Bendel" sweater will sell for $248 and be available in late August.

Henri Bendel Launches Accessories Line

Depending on who you ask there can just never be enough handbags and accessories in the world, and for those who agree there's a new line coming out from Henri Bendel just in time for the holidays. Soon to be joining the envious ranks of the Henri Bendel makeup cases will be a whole group of new items including jewelry, handbags, and wallets.

One signature item, available at the Fifth Avenue store, is the 1907 Centennial stripe East-West tote that will retail for $450. But if that's not your thing there's plenty of other options like cuffs, bangles, pendant necklaces, and earrings to name a few.
