Denon AH-NC800 Noise Canceling Over-Ear Headphones Review

Noise canceling headphones have been quite popular for a while. The first models were quite bulky, but the technology has been getting smaller, and for a while now models are available that look like other full-size headphones. Today I will review Denon's AH-NC800 noise canceling headphones and tell you what this product is all about.

Why do you want or need noise canceling headphones? Well they serve at least two purposes. First is for ambient noise reduction. That means if you are sitting in a place where there is a lot of annoying ambient noise, noise canceling headphones will reduce or entirely eliminate the noise.

They work by emitting a sound frequency that while hard to detect by your ears, helps mask other noises. They seem to work best for low frequency noises and hums. For example, the hum of an airplane engine can be masked out, though a baby's cry will be merely dampened. Noise canceling headphones also create a close to air-tight barrier around your ears that prevents vibrations and noise from getting to your ears. this is particularly convenient for over-the-ear headphones that work via this same principle to get quality sound into your ears. Denon uses two methods of noise-reduction in each speaker. One helps reduce vibration in the unit itself, and the other method as I said, works on reducing external ambient noise.

Ultrasone PRO 900 Headphones Review

Nothing like a good pair of luxury headphones to make one's audio player feel it's worth. I find it so sad that form has brutally beaten the wind out of function when it comes to audio these days. People are obsessed with style and size. You can mostly thank Apple for feeding us too many cheap headphones (earphones) with those craptastic white earbuds. I am afraid that the younger generation has no idea what good headphones sound like. Not only that, but traditional "can" headphones are healthier for your ears, as sounds aren't jammed directly into your head.

Those who still want a quality sound experience will likely go with a more tradition set of headphones - of which there are many options. Here are the Ultrasone PRO 900, a higher-end set of headphones from Ultrasone. I am not a dedicated audiophile or sound expert, so I can't comment on qualities such as sound range, etc.. What I can do is give you the low-down from the point of view of a picky person who has had a lot of headphones in their life.

Audio-Technica's QuietPoint Noise-Canceling Headphones

Audio-Technica is known for its microphones, examples of which have brought you the clearest sounds from the Olympics, World Cup, Grammys, and Justin Timberlake and Metallica for starters. A company that good at reproducing should should know a thing or two about keeping sound out, which is the purpose of its QuietPoint active noise-canceling headphones.

As is the case in these kinds of units a miniature microphone in each ear cup detects environmental noise, and a corresponding sound-canceling signal is applied. They come in one over-the-ear and two on-ear flavors that range from 80% cancellation to 90% cancellation, and the two higher end versions fold flat into hard-shell carrying cases, while the entry-level model folds into its own travel pouch.

The rabbit in the hat, though, is that all of them have detachable wires – you can run them wirelessly on a triple-A battery. If your juice run out, you can plug the wire in so your music doesn't need to run out, too. Each model comes with an airline adapter, 1/4-inch or 1/8-inch adapters and an AAA battery, and they range from $99.99 to $219.99.
