Cara Couture's Pretty Headbands, With Crystals and PearlsI wrote about headbands once before on Luxist, and didn't expect to again. But then I found these pretty accessories at Henri Bendel and thought they'd be nice for a holiday or New Year's fete. Cara Couture's Satin & Crystal Headbands feature offset crystal and pearl adornments and come in four colors: gray, $88; red, $78; black, $88; and purple, $118.

Jennifer Behr, the former hair accessories designer for hot hairstylist Frederic Fekkai is now in business for herself with a unique line of headbands, wraps and hats. Behr, who has a background in sculpture, creates fashionable accessories from deluxe materials. They aren't all as dramatic as the piece shown here, other offerings include sedate headbands done in gold rope, leather or hand-applied small feathers and headwraps in soft jersey or merino wool. The collection is available at Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Saks New York, and other boutiques and she also has a bridal line. The piece shown here is the Olivia, it is made of handcut feathers that are on a comb and sells for $575.

3.1 Phillip Lim Pleated Star Headband

I haven't worn a headband since my middle school days. Well, besides wearing one when I go running or washing my face. I just haven't thought of headbands as one of the most fashionable accessories in a long time - especially given all that you could choose from. And this is not to say that there is anything wrong with headbands, it's just an accessory that doesn't readily speak to me. But 3.1 Phillip Lim takes an ordinary silk headband and turns it up a notch with Swarovski crystals accents. Lim's Pleated Star Headband still has a bit of a casual feel but it's still dressy enough that you could wear out for drinks and not feel as though you should be exercising. And no need for constant readjusting as it features an elastic in the back for a more secure fit. Price: $275.

Dominique Duval Rivers of Gold Headband

Anyone following fashionistas or the celebrity gossip sites will probably have noticed that headbands are quite popular at the moment. Rather than looking too girlish, the trend is to give a fresh, simple look by keeping hair just back from the face. At least, the overall look should be simple. The headband itself doesn't have to be. Dominique Duval's Rivers of Gold Headband, imported from Paris, is made of a string of handblown glass beads that are streaked with bright copper. It is a far cry from any of the brightly colored fabric bands you may have worn as a child. It ties with a velvety ribbon and, despite the intricacies of the beading, shouldn't get caught in your hair. Price: $415.
