Florals don't come much bolder than this layer-upon-layer print from Jil Sander. The Market Floral-Print Silk-Twill Bag is surprisingly versatile thanks its rainbow of colors to draw from and simple, all-one-piece block shaping. The body and top handles are luxe silk-twill but the detachable (convertible?) shoulder strap is buckled pink leather. Plus there's a little bit of midnight blue leather trim along the bottom and midnight blue stitching details. It's unlined and has no pockets, so essentially it's a tote. A gorgeous, happy one. $740

The Grande Anne Tole by Marcia Sherrill may appear unassuming when compared to some of the flashier bags we sometimes feature but this little gem packs some serious luxury punch. Shown here in natural/black python skin one of the most notable features of the Grande Anne Tole (along with many of Marcia Sherrill's other creations) is its solid 18k gold hardware throughout. Yes, that large designer-stamped button on the front is basically a big golden nugget. Other features include structured, timeless shaping, rolled double top handles, and a metallic gold plonge leather interior lining. Prices vary according to the going rate for gold by the ounce but you can expect to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $46,000 for this beauty.

Pink satin can be tough to pull off but this bright shade of fuschia is quite luxe and gorgeous, although I'm not crazy about the soft-body nature of the design as it gives the whole thing a slight 'make-up bag' vibe. You can probably guess who designed this bag just by looking at it, who else but Alexander McQueen? Oriental meets high fashion meets old-fashioned glamour meets McQueen in the Oriental Samurai Skull Silk-Satin Box Clutch. It's a combination made in heaven (or the opposite of perhaps, based on the clasp). The bag features box-clutch styling done up in black silk-satin with gold embroidery and beaded appliqués, a golden Samurai skull clasp at top with black Swarovski crystal eyes, a golden hardware frame, and a black leather lining. No chain shoulder strap on this one, detachable or otherwise, and no internal pockets. $2,195

I haven't written up a Gucci bag in awhile but not for any reason other than I've just had so many others bombarding my attention. This Marrakech Medium Leather Shoulder Bag is a classic and a cutie with its flap-over tasseled front, pouchy shaping, and thoughtful details like the tiny braiding along the top rim. Monochromatic layers of light brown leather get the light goldtone hardware treatment, double braided top handles, and an beige twill lined interior with both pouch and zip pockets. Fun fact: the designer calls this color 'New Banana.' $2,290

Ashley Watson is based out of Vancouver, Canada and all their bags are one of a kind and handcrafted using exclusively recycled materials. Her line of recycled leather handbags was originally inspired by the softness of gently worn leather jackets purchased at charity and thrift stores and the one featured here is called the Flicker. Made of recycled black patterned leather it's styled a little like a backpack and has a large flap front with both buckle and magnet closures. Inside there are two compartments fully lined with hemp/cotton twill. $310

The fold-over shape of this Marc by Marc Jacobs Jane on a Chain Leather and Raffia Shoulder Bag features off-white raffia and leather accented with goldtone hardware. There's a detachable chain link and leather shoulder strap, designer-stamped twist lock closure, and a pop of bright red on the inside flap. It's also fully lined in boldy-striped twill and has several credit card slots and a large zippered interior compartment. $230

A bag after my own heart, this Cotton-Twill Tote from Michael Kors is very earthy and natural, as well as neutral and casual and versatile. It features traditional tote-bag styling and gets its personality from uniquely textured and raw-edged lightweight cotton twill along with a couple tan leather patch details. The only other exterior adornment is a small designer-stamped hardware plaque on the bottom side panel. Inside it's finished but unlined, and has one small pocket. Certainly not a flashy fashion statement but a long term go-to bag for seasons to come. $295
