Fur Hammock for a Winter's Nap

I've always considered the hammock to be a summer luxury, a soft rope or cloth support for a nap in the sun. What, then, to make then of the fur hammock from Bless? The hammock is backed with black cotton but lined in coyote fur. The description says that it is "perfect for a quick cat nap in a secluded nook" so I'm guessing this one isn't really for outdoor use (or at least not to be left outside to weather the elements as many hammocks are). It sells for $8,200.

Sling by Ting

Do you want to relax and enjoy a lazy summer day, but you can't sit still for worrying about the environment? In the Sling by Ting, you can satisfy your need for relaxation and feel confident that at least at that very moment, you are part of the solution, not the problem. Made from end-of-the-line seat belt webbing that would otherwise end up in a landfill, the sling is as eye-catching as it is environmentally friendly. Designed by Inghua Ting, this durable and weather-resistant hammock is available in six colors, including my favorite - orange. $578.

Surevolution Leather Hammock

Hammocks are not evolving quickly in terms of their design, but just because the style is the same, it doesn't mean that the material has to be. Instead of cotton or nylon, hammock fans can relax in the soft cradle of Surevolution's Leather Hammock. It is bright red and decorated with fringe along each side, in a style that is, according to its description, popular in the Andean highlands. A carrying case is included so it can be stored easily. It measures 40" x 82", not including the ties. Price: $1,500.

Cocoon Hammock

When the drapes are down on the Cocoon Hammock, designed by Henry Hall, it becomes an outdoor room and provides a luxurious retreat for anyone looking to escape from the "real world" for a few hours. The hammock is not meant to be moved once it is assembled, as it is roughly 12-sq. ft. and weighs over 400 pounds. It has a sturdy Taukkyan wood frame reinforced at the joints with stainless steel, and has a hammock and covering made of batyline, a synthetic material that is recyclable, resistant to rot, mildew and UV radiation. It also stretches only minimally, so there will be very little, if any, noticeable sag to your hammock after even years of use.

It is priced around $20,000. You can see more pictures after the jump.

Buy a Private Island

When you're in the market for a private island, there is more to consider than just location. The expense and availability of transportation, supplies and housing all can impact where you ultimate decide to go. But with what might just we the world's smallest private island, you can bring the island to you. In fact, you can put it in your yard or even your office. The island is equipped with two realistic, 2-meter high palm trees, and is just the right size for a double hammock (included). It can withstand all weather conditions, though you might want to secure it during hurricane season if the storms impact your area. The trees have an integrated misting mechanism concealed amongst the coconuts that will help to keep you cool on hot days, too. The only downside is, of course, that a private beach is not included. Price: $8,280.

Horchow Swing with Stand

It will not arrive in time for Easter, but Horchow's egg-shaped Swing on a Stand is a very comfortable piece to add to your yard this summer if you like spending time outdoors, enjoying the weather and relaxing. The chair is made of elegant, scrolling wrought iron and heavily cushioned with red, weather-resistant cushions from Sunbrella. It is perfect for curling up in with a good book, but a coordinating ottoman ($330) is available if you would rather stretch out. The fact that it's suspended means that you will be able to drift slightly in the breeze - without the risk of getting tangled in strings as you might in a hammock. Of course, also unlike a hammock, with the heavy-duty stand supporting the chair, you don't need a pair of trees the appropriate distance apart to enjoy it. Chair with cushions: $824.
