Is Your Hairstyle Bringing Out Your Best?

The way we do our hair is a mix of instinct, genetics, fashion trends, and personal taste, but sometimes all of those variables don't come together smoothly and a truly unflattering style results. If your mom isn't around to tell you about it though chances are no one else will, so here are a few tips for making sure you're flaunting a 'do that brings out the best you have to offer.

The key to choosing a hairstyle that really flatters is understanding what your basic face shape is: oval, round, square, or heart. If you don't know or are unsure see our How to Determine Your Face Shape post, then read through the guidelines below.

Oval faces are the most versatile and can pull off pretty much any cut. Pick your best feature and style your hair to accentuate it, for example bangs will bring out your eyes while an angular bob will accentuate your jaw, cheekbones, and bone structure.

Round faces look good in off-center parts that break up the roundness, along with height and volume at the crown to elongate and slim the face. Wispy or tapered ends and layers also work well. Avoid cuts that are widest at the cheekbones or round bobs that end at the chin -- both will add weight and make the face appear even rounder.

Fashion Week Hair: Get the Look

Over at Milk Studios, Frederic Fekkai called the shots backstage at Proenza Schouler. We've been missing our beach hair all winter long, so were thrilled to see the easy textured looks seen on the runway. Lead stylist Didier Malige created the stunning array of hairstyles inspired by the urban surfer girl, focusing on relaxed and easy waves. To get the look, prep hair with Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel, and then spritz with Oceanique Tousled Wave spray. Once you've flipped your head a few times and lifted your roots with your fingers, finish with Magnifique Ultra-Light Finishing Creme to keep the ends silky and defined. A Celebrity Hairstylist's World Tour

Celebrity hairstylists often fly around the world to see their clients. French hairstylist John Nollet is taking that idea a step further going on a world tour that puts him in Park Hyatt hotels across the globe. His 11-city tour has stops in Milan, Moscow, Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Shanghai,Tokyo and Dubai, which is his first stop. Nollet has some fancy luggage for the journey too, Louis Vuitton designed a bespoke luggage set for Nollet and all his supplies. He will be in Dubai from January 21 to 27 where he will offer private hair diagnosis, cut, color and a showing of his haute couture hair accessories specially designed for the tour. A session with Nollet costs 700 euros.
