Paul Mitchell is celebrating the hair care brand's 30th birthday with a line of luxury products featuring one of the brand's signature ingredients, Hawaiian Awapuhi.

The Awapuhi Wild Ginger collection consists of eight products, all specially formulated from the most lipid-rich part of the awapuhi plant's root for moisture and shine, as well as an exclusive Keratin blend, KeraTriplex, that repairs weak, damaged hair from the core out.

I've been using several products from the line exclusively for the last week or so, including the Moisturizing Lather Shampoo, Styling Treatment Oil, Finishing Spray and Keratin Intensive Treatment, and am noticing good results. My hair is fine and prone to damage and breakage so I was particularly interested in the KeraTriplex and I think feel it may be making my hair stronger.

My favorites are the Moisturizing Lather Shampoo (it smells great and works up into a thick and silky lather) and the Intensive Treatment (my hair feels really beautiful afterwards). All the products have a mild and slightly spicy ginger scent. But I wish the bottle designs were a little less masculine. All inall, a great line.

The son of hair legend Vidal Sassoon now has his own line of salon products. Elan Sassoon is the son of Vidal Sassoon and the owner of Mizu salons in New York and Boston. His new hair care line Sojourn offers a variety of products including shampoo, conditioner, detangler, volume gel, sculpting taffy, molding paste and a monoi oil hair treatment.

The salon-only product line launched in February of this year and products contain pH compatible, Keratin Cashmere Protein, 100% biodegradable, sulfate-, formaldehyde- and paraben-free ingredients. "My goal in creating Sojourn was to focus on the natural pH of hair, which is 4.5-5.5," stated Elan Sassoon. "This is the range that hair structure is at its strongest. When we raise the pH of hair, the cuticle will open, leaving it susceptible to color loss and damage. By formulating Sojourn products in the pH range of 4.5-5.5, people will be putting back the moisture in their hair, allowing it to be healthy and enjoy lasting color."

Is Your Shower Making You Look Older?

Should you be afraid of your shower? For years I've heard of celebrities washing their face and hair with Evian. Now several beauty products have been developed to counteract the effects of tap water. Jonathan Antin recently came out with a $95  shower purifier that is supposed to result in healthier hair and there are also products to protect the skin. Dorit Baxter’s Day Spa in New York has created the Facial Shower Shield which is  a cream that is meant to be put on when you step into the shower. A two ounce jar sells for $12.99. Is this overkill or is tap water really making us look older?
