Chateau du Lac, Estate of the Day

Take a little bit of France, a whole lot of Texas and you get Chateau du Lac, a French-inspired compound on Grapevine Lake in Dallas. This sprawling seven-bedroom castle is on ten acres that include a bridge house, gate house, guest house and two swimming pools. This is luxury on a grand scale. There is a wine cellar which has the interesting feature of having holes for wine bottles right in the brick wall. The Moroccan-themed media room is draped in gauzy fabrics. A marble bathtub sits on a pedestal facing a fireplace with a chandelier overhead. And, as a reminder we are in Texas, there is also a trophy room with animal heads and medieval-style sconces. A long-columned hallway recalls Citizen Kane's mythical Xanadu. The home is a pastiche of many different styles but the overall effect is pure money. Will anyone be willing to pay $18.5 million? Stay tuned.
