Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you've had your eye on a new Maserati but wanted something a little more hard-core in its performance delivery, look no further than the new GranTurismo MC Stradale.

Bridging the gap between the existing GranTurismo S and the race-spec GT4 model, the MC Stradale increases the performance quotient considerably. The chassis has been tuned to near-competition standards, the engine has been squeezed up to 450 horsepower and the aerodynamics have been optimized to increase downforce without increasing drag at the same time. In short, a racing car for the road.

Chopard Mille Miglia Gran Turismo XL Alfa Romeo Watch

This year is both the 150th anniversary of Chopard, as well as the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo. As anniversaries are a time for watches (duh), Chopard is making a limited edition Gran Turismo watch in their Mille Miglia collection for Afla that contains the signature red that Alfa Romeo cars seem to look best in. The watches are actually mostly black, but have high contrast hands in a cherry red tone. At 44mm wide, the watch will actually come in three versions. Two chronographs, and a three-hand Gran Turismo XL Chronometer model (actually, all models are technically certified Chronometers). The chronograph versions (like the one pictured) will come in a polished steel case (limited to 500 pieces), and a DLC coated steel case version (limited to 100 pieces). The three-hand model is in polished steel and limited to 500 pieces as well. Strap is your standard Mille Miglia Dunlap tire tread pattern in rubber, and inside the watches are Swiss automatic movements (base ETA). Really an awesome treat for the proud Alfa Romeo car owner.

2009 Frankfurt Auto Show: BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo

German automakers have elevated the crossing of traditional market segments into an art form, BMW arguably chief among them. Joining the X6 – a sort of cross between a sport-utility vehicle and a sports coupe – is the new 5 Series Gran Turismo, revealed in production trim to the public at the Frankfurt auto show.

Combining what BMW claims is the head room of the X5 and the legroom of the 7 Series in a more compact form, the 5 Series GT bridges the gap between a tall wagon and a short sport-ute. A strange concept, to be sure, but one which BMW appears to have pulled off with aplomb. Available with a range of engines starting with a 245hp diesel and topping out at the 407hp twin-turbo V8, the Gran Turismo is slated to replace the 5 Series Touring wagon variant in the American market in the near future, but you can see it now in our high-resolution image gallery below.

Citroen Considers Building Million-Euro Supercar

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you've got a seven figures to spend on an exotic supercar, there are plenty of companies that will be glad to help out. Between the Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini Reventon, Aston Martin One-77, and Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss, supercars keep getting more and more expensive. But even in these difficult financial times, there appears to be a wealth of wealthy individuals looking for new ways to spend their money. And the latest to (potentially) join the fold is probably one of the last automakers you'd expect: Citroen.

Although the French automaker is working on entering the premium market with its new DS line, what you see here is another beast entirely. Called the GTbyCitroen, the concept car was a joint effort between the carmaker and the creators of the popular Gran Turismo video game series on Sony Playstation. The car was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Auto Salon, but aside from making it into the latest version of the game, that's about as far as it was ever meant to go. However Citroen reports that there have been sufficient inquiries from interested parties to consider actually building it in limited quantities: 15 to be exact, at a price of one million euros apiece. Citroen says it will have made its decision within the next four weeks, so stay tuned.

Novitec Supercharges the Maserati GranTurismo to 600HP

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you bought a machine as close to perfection as a Maserati, would you try to improve upon it? We're not sure we would, but if we did, we'd be turning to Novitec. The German tuning house has a long history in modifying Ferraris, and since Maserati is Ferrari's sister company and borrows its engines from them, the Novitec's know-how is a natural fit. In this case, they've taken the GranTurismo S, in all its 435-horsepower glory, and given it even more power and exclusivity thanks to a supercharger and other modifications that bring the total power output up to an even more outstanding 600. Novitec Tridente, as their new Maserati division is called, also fitted 20-inch modular wheels up front and 21-inch rims in the back, which together with the carbon fiber aerodynamics kit gives the GranTurismo an even more menacing look.
