Famed Trianon Palace Hotel's $30 Million Makeover

The legendary Trianon Palace hotel and spa in Versailles, France where the likes of Marcel Proust, René Lacoste and the Duke of Windsor once frolicked has just completed a breathtaking $30 million renovation. Situated just outside Paris less than a mile from Louis XIV's famed Château de Versailles, the 5-star luxury hotel's upgrades include a new wing, Gordon Ramsay's first restaurant in France, a refurbished Guerlain spa, revamped public spaces and glorious gardens. Noted interior designer Fiona Thompson, who oversaw renovations to the 199-room property, has managed to modernize the 1909 building without detracting from its historic magnificence.

Gordon Ramsay Serves Deluxe Airport Food

Would you go to the airport just to eat at a restaurant? Airport food has been steadily getting better over the last few years with more and more middle-range restaurants working their way into airports but Gordon Ramsay Plane Food at Heathrow Airport seems a step beyond that. The Telegraph sent Jasper Gerard to check out the fare at the restaurant in the swanky new Terminal 5 in a review as heavy in plane metaphors as you might expect a review about an airport restaurant to be.

Gordon Ramsay Plane Food offers take-away food and promises to serve food fast for those who have to make a flight. It doesn't look like an airport restaurant with it's large windows and restrained decor. Gerrard seems pleased with the meal but raises the question that is on my mind too, who would get to the airport early enough to have a fine dining experience before boarding? Certainly it's unlikely that many will wade through the ridiculous security lines to eat in another Ramsay restaurant unless they have a flight but kudos to Ramsay for at least attempting to add a little elegance back to the world of flying.

The London West Hollywood Plans April Fool's Day Opening

The latest West Hollywood hotel, The London West Hollywood is set to open. The hotel, which is located where on the site of the former Bel Age Hotel boasts the first Gordon Ramsay restaurant on the West Coast. The hotel was designed by the David Collins Studio which also worked on The London NYC, Nobu Berkeley Street, The Blue Bar at The Berkeley, Claridge's and the National Gallery. Ramsay's restaurant will have two main dining rooms that mirror each other, centered by a cocktail bar. There will also be five private dining rooms and a 3,960 square foot ballroom. Guests of the hotel will also be able to order from a special in-room dining menu created by Gordon and his team.

The 223 guest suites include bespoke furnishings in a luxury neutral palette with details such as embossed leather, velvet upholstery, bleached oak, hand-cut mosaic tiles and Italian linens. Each suite has a private terrace and the bathroom has a walk-in, glass shower with both jet and raindrop shower heads, a separate soaking tub and a dual vanity with ample shelf storage. Rooms will be wired with plenty of docking outlets for your electronics and will have a high-definition flat screen television. And unlike some hotels, the London West Hollywood will offer complimentary wired and wireless high-speed Internet access. The hotel also has a rooftop panoramic pool deck adorned with trees and white roses and plans to open a rooftop spa later this year. The hotel opens April 1 and is offering a special of $249 per night including a continental breakfast until May 31.

Gordon Ramsay's French Challenge

Foul-mouthed chef Gordon Ramsay is ready for what might be the biggest culinary challenge of his life, opening a restaurant in France. Ramsay who has declared his ambition to win win three Michelin stars in London, Paris and New York is opening a brasserie and fine-dining restaurant at the Trianon Palace hotel near the Palace of Vesailles. On the menu will be his usual fare such as blue lobster ravioli with steamed lemongrass and cream of chervil as well as newer more elaborate options such as a take on the English breakfast that includes a stuffed mushroom in an edible puff-pastry spoon, a sliver of bacon and crispy pancetta, a dollop of scrambled egg and white beans in a tomato sauce.

French food critics are ready for Ramsay
. François Simon at Le Figaro has accused Ramsay of coming to France on the quest for money and has said the the main interest in the restaurant will come from British and American tourists visiting Versailles not the locals. Ramsay's show "Hell's Kitchen" is now on French cable television so perhaps that will help lure the curious.

This is the time of year where special occasions and rare visits from family and friends are plentiful, and although home cooking is a big part of the season so is eating out -- because when people are in from out of town you hardly want to take them down to the local "all-you-can-eat for $4.99" buffet to celebrate their visit. Gordon Ramsay's Cookware Collection

Given his fiery reputation you might expect chef Gordon Ramsay's cookware, dishes and stemware to have a more individual look. But his collection with Royal Doulton is restaurant ready: simple white plates (except for an aubergine charger) and user-friendly stemware that is classic and meant to let the food take the spotlight. The 10-piece stainless steel cookware set has an aluminum core and sells for $499.99. A dinner plate is $19.99 and the glasses start at $39.99 per pair.
