When I was first learning to play golf when I was young, it was a big thrill that there were finally orange and lime green balls. Then came the hot pink golf balls and I was in heaven. My teenage self would have loved this pretty princess putter from The GoldenPutter but it would have been a bit out of my price range. Each Golden Putter has a 24 carat gold plated shaft, a leather grip (in pink but other colors are available) and a head with customizable crystal inlays. The First Special Lady Edition of the "GoldenPutter" will be available for 1995 euros. For those with more money to spend there is the possibility to create a diamond lady putter will be available for around $150,000.Posts with tag golf

Trump Fights For His Scottish Dream

Donald Trump is still fighting for his dream of having a golf resort in Scotland. Today he was in Aberdeen fighting for the right to build his $2 billion golf course complex. The development is planned for a 1,400 acre site in the dunes dunes on the Menie Estate at Balmedie. Environmentalists says the resort will destroy an area of natural importance but local businesses are looking forward to increased tourism dollars. His plans were narrowly rejected by the Aberdeenshire Council late last year. Trump has since been spotted real estate shopping in Ireland but it looks like he's not ready to let his Scottish dream die quite yet.
Trump spoke passionately about the site and his scheme to create two championship golf courses, a luxury hotel with 450 bedrooms, and approximately 1,000 timeshare condominiums and 500 luxury homes. He touted his matrilineal connection to the land (his mother is Scottish) and said that the development would create the "world's greatest golf course." The AP reports that the discussion got heated. David Tildsley, representing the Scottish Wildlife Trust, said that Trump had ignored the advice of his own consultants on the environment. Trump replied that he knows more than his consultants and said he considers himself "an environmentalist in the true sense of the word."
A decision is expected sometime in July.
The Ultimate $500,000 Scottish Sojourn

The other day my colleague Deidre Woollard reported on Chivas Regal's luxurious Father's Day travel package, which costs $117,000. If you prefer single malt Scotch and you're looking for something a little more over-the-top - and you have $500,000 to spend on dear old dad - Scotland's preeminent luxury travel agency Dream Escape has partnered with Classic Malts Selection, the prestigious portfolio of single malts, to create the Ultimate Scotland Experience.
The six-day journey for five guests begins with a private jet trip to the exclusive Myres Castle in Fife, followed by a lavish dinner featuring select single malt whiskies from the Classic Malts Selection, like Talisker, Oban, Cragganmore and Dalwhinnie. Day two kicks off with golf at the famed St. Andrews. Day three includes a helicopter ride to Islay, home of our favorite smoky single malts. Day four features a trip to the Isle of Skye. Day five finds you at the magnificent Corrour Lodge nestled in the Scottish Highlands. Day six kicks off with a drive through the dramatic landscape in your choice of a Ferrari, Aston Martin or Lamborghini (as pictured above).
The festivities culminate in the ultimate food and whisky pairing dinner prepared by three of the country's best chefs. Then it's back home via private jet. Contact Dream Escape's David Tobin at ultimatescotland@dreamescape.co.uk for booking info.
Carmel Valley Ranch Completes $12 Million Makeover

Carmel Valley Ranch, the California retreat set on a stunning parcel of 400 lush acres with views of the Santa Lucia Mountains, just finished the final phase of an elegant $12 million makeover with the opening of a branch of acclaimed Washington, D.C. eatery Citronelle. Among the many improvements are a remodeled main Lodge and a refurbished Pete Dye-designed 18-hole championship golf course and clubhouse. CVR's 144 suites - that's 2.7 acres per suite, by the way - take advantage of the dramatic setting with a refined country aesthetic, many featuring wraparound decks and wood-burning fireplaces. Chef Michel Richard's Citronelle serves light, modern French cuisine "infused with locally grown ingredients and produce for a uniquely Californian twist." See the gallery for more.

Tiger Woods Foundation, Charity of the Day

Tiger Woods is a rich man, and it's always nice to see rich people giving back (even when they name the charities after themselves...). The Tiger Woods Foundation is based on Woods' family motto of "caring and sharing," and not only having dreams but setting goals and making real plans so those dreams actually come true. Through scholarships, character development programs, grants, junior golf teams (of course), and the Tiger Woods Learning Center the foundation is helping empower youth across the country to realize their dreams. So far 10 million+ kids have benefited, and counting.
Michael Toschi Golf Shoes
A reader brought my attention to Michael Toschi golf shoes. These are some of the most attractive golf shoes I have seen. They are basically fine Italian footwear that is wearable out on the golf course. The shoes have an Italian calf upper with a kidskin lining and the CONTAC sole. The days of lethal spikes are gone, these shoes have a terragrip outsole with a stance-stabilizing traction system. The shoes start at over $400 with most of the styles selling for $530.[Thanks, Marc]
Thistle & Broom Talisman Golf Ball Markers

Out of the many companies making golf ball markers, Thistle & Broom, Scotland's luxury goods producer, might have the most natural right to do so since. Their new Talisman ball marker is named after the Scottish golf course located in the geographical region in which the semi-precious stone used for the market was found. The markers come in 18K gold or sterling silver bezels. The Talisman range currently includes: the Royal Dornach in deep purple amethyst, branched moss agate chosen for Carnoustie, smoky Cairngorms for Speyside's Boat of Garten, grey and pale pink East Sands banded agates for St. Andrew's, mulberry jasper for Loch Lomond and a mustard and persimmon Burn Anne agate for Turnberry. These are some of the most simple and beautiful ball markers I've seen out there.
MonteLago Village Golf Package

Just because you are in Las Vegas it doesn't mean there aren't seasons, they are just a bit more subtle than in other places. When I last checked out the MonteLago Village Resort at Lake Las Vegas they were bringing out the floating ice rink for winter. Now with spring coming it's golf time. Their unlimited golf package starts at $214 per person and offers the choice to play at one of two golf courses; the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club or the Tom Weiskopf's Falls Golf Club. The package includes a one night stay and as much golf as you can handle at either course on the same day. The package runs from March 7 – May 24, 2008.
Adams Golf Digital Training Putter
If you believe in the old golf saying that you "drive for show and putt for dough" then you might consider the DiXX Digital Training Putter from Adams Golf an investment. The putter is a computerized training system that can track swing path, face angle, speed, tempo and impact position and display the information on an LCD screen on the club. The data can them be analyzed. The club also comes with a practice weight for recreational use. As you might suspect, it's not USGA approved. It sells for around $400.[via Uncrate]

The World's Most Expensive Golf Ball Marker
I thought a $90 ball marker was expensive but the new Tri Mark Executive Series Marker defies all reason. The marker has a numbering system that lets you mark how many putter heads away your ball is. It is done up in 18K gold and diamonds and can also be worn with a chain to make a necklace. The marker sells for $10,500 and will be available for order on February 14, 2008.Pinehurst Golf Sabbatical

Shano Designs Skull Ball Marker
I know the skull trend has been done to death (pardon the pun) but I had to show you these golf accessories from Shano Designs. The company does a variety of golf accessories such as ball markers and divot repair tools in sterling silver and gemstones. They recently unveiled a divot tool shaped like a ribbon and adorned with a pink sapphire to raise money for breast cancer research. But what caught my eye is their skull and crossbones ball marker and divot tool each with ruby eyes. Although I question the wisdom of having a ball marker with a raised surface these look really cool and could have a great intimidation factor with those you are playing against. The ball marker is $90.
