RV Rentals Make Burning Man A Luxury Experience

It's almost time for the annual Burning Man festival when thousands of merrymakers trek out onto the playa in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada (this year's event runs August 30 to September 6). The event was traditionally for hardy spirits willing to endure the heat, dust and spartan conditions of the event in order to take part in the unique festivities but like glamping, luxury has come to Burning Man. The LA Times reports on the brisk business that one RV company does each year during this time. Burning Man is El Monte RV's single biggest event for motor-home rentals. Luxury packages for Burning Man take out a lot of the hassle (and challenge) of taking part in the event. You can get a luxury 34-foot Fleetwood Fiesta or 35-foot Fleetwood Bounder for the week stocked with your choice of groceries (ordered online from a local grocery store and then stocked for you by the company) and outfitted with kitchen supplies, bedding and flatscreen televisions delivered to Black Rock City. The company picks you up from Reno and delivers you right to your RV or you can arrange to ride in the motorhome directly to the site. The luxury package costs around $12,000 to $15,000 depending on options and details.

Raft Down The Colorado River This Summer

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Part of the reason to get awesome accommodations when traveling is so that you can get a little adventurous and be safe in the knowledge that a 24-hour chef and 3,000-count sheets are waiting to receive you at the end of it. After departing your suite at the Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon – about as luxurious as it gets, but remember we are talking about a remote and giant hole in the ground – river rafting might make the perfect counterpoint.

If you really want to get adventurous, then skip the Grand Hotel and go straight for Arizona River Runners' 3- to 13-day trips down the Colorado River. A full-on vacation inside of the canyon provides a glimpse of nature and rams and stars not often seen. Sure, there are things like tents to deal with but the soul can luxuriate in the outdoors, and a few days on the rio Colorado will give the body every excuse it needs to shack up at the spa at the Mandarin Oriental when the trip is done.

Glamour + Camping = Glamping (Seriously)

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels, Services

The camping season is still in full swing around most parts of the country, but swiftly cooling temperatures (especially at night) are beginning to weed out all but the most hardcore of tent-pitching types. The good news? You don't have to be hardcore to enjoy camping during this season, or any other, thanks to a new trend called "glamping."

Glamping (makes me laugh every time I say it) is a term derived from the phrase "glamorous camping," and the idea is to bring nature and luxury together. Amenities vary depending on where you go, but many glamping packages include things like big, plush beds in your tent, personal butlers, gourmet food, wi-fi internet access, spa services (in a tent), and top shelf wine, liquor, cigars, etc. Rates start around $695 a night for a couple and can go as high as $50,000 a week for a family.
