Ralph Lauren's Bugatti Stars in Lake Como Concorso

At the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy on April 24-26, designer Ralph Lauren will be presenting his multiple concours-winning 1938 Bugatti Atlantic 57SC (above), one of only three built. At the event, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, Lauren's beautiful car, worth several million dollars, will be making its first European appearance in 18 years. The Concorso is held at the ultra-luxurious Grand Hotel Villa d'Este on the shores of Lake Como, where part of Casino Royale was filmed, and which we featured in our post on the world's most luxurious private gardens. More than 50 classic beauties spanning six decades of motoring history have been selected to appear at this year's Concorso, which is presented by BMW with sponsorship from Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux, while bespoke coachbuilders Bertone and Zagato will stage world premieres of their new concept cars.

$120K Italian Superbike Comes With Swiss Watch

Luxury Italian motorcycle brand MV Agusta is presenting its limited edition $120,000 superbike, the F4CC, in London as part of its new Brutale On Tour event. Only 100 of the handbuilt titanium and carbon fiber bikes (above) are being produced, and each ones comes with an exclusive Girard-Perregaux Swiss watch and a luxurious leather motorcycle jacket by Italian fashion house Trussardi. The F4CC, named for MV Agusta director Claudio Castiglioni, is the world's most expensive and exclusive production sport bike. Its 1078 cc engine produces 200 hp and a top speed of 195 mph, and with a weight of 412 lbs. it costs twice as much per pound as a Ferrari.

Girard-Perregaux Launches New Pen Line

Swiss watchmaker Girard-Perregaux has been making fine timepieces for well over 200 years, but 2009 marks the first time they've manufactured a writing instrument. The firm, founded in 1791, is debuting a luxurious new line of pens based on their famed Three Bridges gold tourbillon watch. There are three models of writing instrument, adorned with precious metal engraved with delicate guilloche work, based on a vintage 1945 Three Bridges Tourbillon, a famed Girard-Perregaux model. The clip on the caps is double-arrow shaped, like the bridge on the watch.

Three openings on the pen body showing the ink level refer to the timepiece's power reserve indicators. Fountain pens come equipped with an exclusive high-capacity double reservoir system preventing leakage. There are three models available: a piston fountain pen in guilloche silver and resin (above), limited to 999-pieces; a piston fountain pen in guilloche pink gold and resin, limited to 99 pieces; and a rollerball in guilloche silver and resin, limited to 999 pieces. A matching set comprising the silver fountain pen and rollerball is also available in an edition of 199 pieces.

2009 Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Collection Watch

Girard-Perregaux has a number of timeless looking watches with the 1945 being among them. This restyled Vintage 1945 model watch is a triumph of a bygone era. Don't knock the 32mm x 32mm size of the square watch until you wear one. It sits small by today's standards, but I think you'll come to appreciate it. The 18k rose gold case blends with the honey alligator strap so nicely. It is also available in steel with a black dial.

New to the case are the "godrons." These are rib shaped areas that wrap around the corners of the watch. They mark the space between the case and the sharply angled lugs. Inside the watch is a automatic Girard-Perregaux GP3300 calibre movement viewable through a sapphire caseback window. The dial features applied gold hour markers and dauphine hands, as well as central guilloche engraving. The nicely placed date window sits between 1 and 2 o'clock while the prominent subsidiary seconds dial sit at 9 o'clock. A nicely in-set crown rounds out this beautiful little number.

Japan Loves The Girard-Perregaux 1966 Full Calendar Watch

Watch lovers in Japan voted the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Full Calendar as the watch of the year in Tokyo recently. The result signals a distinct love of classic styles with desirable complications. The layout of this retro styled calendar watch cannot be solely attributed to Girard-Perregaux, as it has been seen in countless luxury creations. Regardless. this interpretation of particularly clean. The annual calendar's day and month windows are faceted and subtle, while the date dial with moonphase is effective and clean. A full seven complications are available at a glance, but with an almost minimal, uncluttered look.

The 18k rose gold 40mm wide case is a thin 10.7mm high, while the Girard-Perregaux GP0330M0 movement is an automatic, making this watch fall into the thin watch range. It looks dashing with an alligator strap, just as it did in 1966. The award by Tokyo's "Sekai no ude tokei" (World Wrist Watch) magazine is not the first time this style has been appreciated. Ian Fleming's James Bond "From Russia With Love" novel had the villain wearing the original version of this watch that was released in 1966 as described by Fleming in the book. I agree with Japan's Sekai no ude tokei that this watch is sublime for what it is, though I'd reserve the "best" watch of the year for something a bit more charismatic.

Girard-Perregaux Shopping Watch

I find the newest women's watch from Girard-Perregaux a little sexist (women aren't the only shoppers after all) but the watch is awfully attractive. The Girard-Perregaux ww.tc 24 Hour Shopping Watch gives the time in 24 time zones listing them, not by cities as most watches do, but by shopping destinations. The watch lists places famous for their fashion and luxury boutiques, such as Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Dubai, Ginza and Rode Drive. There are several different versions available and each one focuses on two specific venues: Faubourg Saint-Honoré and Orchard Road, or Montenapoleone and Central or Rue du Rhône and Nan Jing Xi Lu. The other time zones are indicated on the city ring by fifteen different sized diamonds, adding up to 0.18 carats. The dial has diamonds as some of the hour markets and the bezel is set with 54 diamonds (a total of 1.95 carats). The 41mm watch uses the Girard-Perregaux movement GP033G0, a mechanical movement with automatic winding. It has a sapphire crystal and a sapphire back. One nice detail is the onyx cabochons set into the watch crowns.

Unique Watches For Only Watch 2007

On September 20 this year, the Only Watch event will take place in Monaco again. For the event, some of the world's finest watchmakers create special unique timepieces to be sold at auction to benefit research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This watch is the entry from Girard-Perregaux and it is the only watch in the world to combine a perpetual calendar, the indication of time in 24 different international cities as well as the business hours of four major stock markets. The dial displays the date, the day of the week, the month and the moon phase. The mechanism takes into account the length of each month, allowing for the leap years without any manual adjustment before 2100. Two mobile rings on the dial show the opening hours of the New York, London, Hong Kong and Tokyo and the different times around the world. The watch has a 41mm pink gold case with sapphire front and back crystals. The Vacheron Constantin entry is after the jump and I will bring you more Only Watch 2007 models as they are released.

Girard-Perregaux Hours of the World Perpetual Calendar Watch

We first heard about this watch when it made its debut at SIHH, now check out the sexy red gold version of the Hours of the World Perpetual Calendar by Girard-Perregaux. The 41mm watch which is ringed with the names of the world's major cities is equipped with an automatic GP 033Q0 mechanical movement with 46-hour power reserve. The watch has a day/night disc and indicates the day, month, date, moon phase on a four year cycle with leap year. It has an anti-reflection sapphire crystal with a transparent screw-down caseback.
