Currier & Ives Landscapes On Display

July 4 brings a traditional American art exhibit to Boscobel House & Gardens in Garrison, New York. Currier & Ives on The Hudson opens on July 4 and runs through October 11. The exhibit will showcase prints from the 19th-century publishing firm that became the printmakers to a nation issuing thousands of lithographs on a wide variety of subjects. The Boscobel exhibit will focus on Currier & Ives landscapes and views of the Hudson River Valley. These images brought the beauty of the region before a much greater audience.

Currier & Ives prints remain highly collectible but there haven't been many exhibits of the work recently. Boscobel's exhibition will feature approximately 30 prints. The exhibition will be open to visitors during regular business hours and is included in the price of a House Tour ticket which is $16.

Boscobel itself is well worth a visit. The house features decorative arts from the Federal period with furniture by Duncan Phyfe and other recognized New York cabinetmakers of the day. Collections of English china, silver and glass are displayed in beautifully appointed period interiors with reproduction carpets, wallpaper, fabrics, and window treatments based upon contemporary sources. The grounds include an apple orchard, herb garden and a formal rose garden with over 150 varieties of roses on display.
