Win Tickets To Amsterdam With Gadling

Our slightly older sister site, Gadling, the source for travel news, is holding a contest to celebrate their birthday this week. They are giving away a pair of round trip tickets to Amsterdam on the newest premium carrier, OpenSkies. OpenSkies is the new premium carrier which flies rom the east coast into Europe. Earlier this year they launched their first route between JFK and Paris, and as of October 15th they're starting their second route from JFK into Amsterdam. The tickets are for Prem+, OpenSkies' signature upper class service which offers wide leather seats, a comfy cabin and attentive service on your journey. To enter head on over to Gadling and tell them why you need to go to Amsterdam.

Gadling Checks Out The Lalu In Taiwan

Tynan at our globetrotting sister blog, Gadling recently checked out Taiwan's only six star hotel, The Lalu Hotel. The Lalu Hotel is located at the tranquil Sun Moon Lake, a place of rare beauty. The hotel is built on a hill leading down to Sun Moon Lake and all the rooms have huge balconies with tables, chairs, and daybeds to enjoy the view. Tynan reports that the hotel's restaurants are excellent (and willing to accommodate special requests) and that the spa treatments are as sybaritic as you'd expect. Local attractions include temples, hiking trails, fishing, a tea research facility, and a peacock garden. For more info and pictures, check out the complete story here.

Get Yourself A Xubaz, A Luxist Giveaway

I was traveling a few weeks ago and trying to only have one carry-on and so I did not bring a purse only a laptop bag. Unfortunately I did not want to lug my laptop bag around all week so I took my wallet out. Long story short, I left my wallet in one location and didn't realize it until I was hours away and had to beg a friend to drive me back. I could have used a Xubaz. What's a Xubaz? Basically it is looks like a scarf but it also has places for your wallet, iPod, lipstick, keys and boarding pass. There are also a couple of clips that you can attach to your belt or outfit so that when you bend over to deal with your luggage your Xubaz doesn't go flopping all over the place. The Xubaz can be easily rolled up and stashed went not in use.

Bernt Kuhlmann, the developer of the Xubaz, was kind enough to offer me a whole bunch of Xubaz to give away to a few of our jetsetting Luxist readers. You can win your own Xubaz, (a $60 to $80 value depending on the model) by leaving a comment about where you would wear your own Xubaz down below.

UPDATE: This contest is now closed.

Posh Vacations for Pampered Pets

At Gadling, they mentioned an article from the New York Times about traveling with pampered pets, where people are seeking out high end services for their pets, as well as for themselves, when they travel. Among the things offered at the various hotels hoping to cash in on the $38 billion per year owners spend on their pets are animal massages/aromatherapy, plush beds with fine linens, dog biscuits baked by pastry chefs and even portable pet cabanas at the pool.
