Luxist Giveaway: Swatch Happy Games Watch With Snowpass Technology

Enter to win this watch! For the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Swatch has created three new fun and occasion celebrating timepieces. You can enter to win one watch a week until we have given away one of all three. This model is called the Swatch Happy Games and is the most understated of the three. Plus it has built-in Snowpass technology. It is medium sized and from the Swatch Original family of timepieces. Case is 38mm wide with a gray strap embossed with Vancouver imagery. The light gray tone and white face are hallmarks of the watch's skiing theme. You see a Snowpass label right under "Swatch" on the strap loop, with the Olympics logo underneath that.

Snowpass technology is really cool. Inside the watch is a small chip (likely RFID) that can be loaded with your daily, weekly, or seasonal ticket. The Snowpass technology is available at over 700 ski resorts around the world. This often makes is to that you don't need to wait in line at the slopes, and is a great tool inside of an otherwise good watch. No more carrying tickets either. The watch dial is very easy to read and should appeal to all Swatch and Olympics fans. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA quartz movement. The Swatch Happy Games watch retails for $75. US Airways Brings Back Free Beverages

Just seven months after US Airways began charging customers $2 for sodas, coffee, and other beverages, it is reversing its policy and will now serve drinks for free.

MSN Money analyzed the situation and noted, "What happened? Well, in this airline's case, it was more about what didn't happen. First, other airlines didn't follow US Airways' lead. Sure, they were fine with fees for checking bags and other things, but they drew the line when it came to charging for drinks. Second, passengers didn't accept the fee. It became about more than a soda."

If you normally fly first class and don't ever pay for beverages, this won't affect you. But if you are watching your money a bit more and may now fly coach, at least you'll have a few extra dollars to spend on other things.

Lux Tip: Volunteer Usher!

Want to support the arts and see a great show? Volunteer usher. it's a great way to get involved in your arts community without spending a dollar.

Years ago, I went to see Eddie Izzard in Boston on his "Circle" tour, and I loved the show so much, I wanted to see it again! I contacted the theater's house management department and asked if they were looking for volunteer ushers. Result: I got to see Eddie Izzard again, and because he's such a brilliant improvisationalist, the show was totally different! I laughed till I cried all over again.

Since then, I've volunteer ushered for a number of shows. Sure, you have to take a few tickets or pass out a few programs, but the experience of seeing a live show is irreplaceable.

Seattle has its own website, volunteerusher.com, and if you search "volunteer usher" and the name of your own city, you just might be surprised by all the opportunities, especially from smaller, under-the-radar organizations it's always fashionable to support. Often times, you even get to meet the performers or the cast!

If there's a show you want to see, contact the theater's house management department and see if they're looking for volunteers. It's just another easy way to make life more lux for cheap or free.

Million Dollar Coconut Brandy...Any Takers?

Mendis is introducing the world's first ultra-premium coconut brandy, and they're not shy about making a big deal about it. Mendis coconut brandy is an all-natural, clear brandy with delicate tones of coconut, vanilla, and chocolate and a "velvety sweet texture." It's recommended neat or on the rocks, but can also be enjoyed mixed.

The very first bottle of this very first coconut brandy is going up for sale in August for $1 million dollars. So if you're the type to collect "firsts," or really love coconut flavored drinks, or just happened to have an extra million or so burning a hole in your pocket, then you might want to hurry and buy that first fancy bottle as it rolls off the product line (well, I'm sure it doesn't actually roll, do you think?) before somebody else does.
