Smell Like Michael Jackson? My DNA Antiquity Fragrance Line

We've already seen the promise of a Michael Jackson diamond using his DNA, now a new line of fragrances offers the scent of a variety of celebrities based on their DNA. One of the first offerings is M, based on the DNA of Michael Jackson. My DNA Fragrance has created the "Antiquity" line of fragrances which will include dead celebrities like Elvis Presley, Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford and Katherine Hepburn. The firm already makes individualized scents for living customers based on the analysis of a customer's cheek swab. DNA tests performed on hair clippings provided by celebrity hair collector John Reznikoff are used to develop the scents of these luminaries. The Antiquity line sells for $59.99 per bottle and is available online. What does M smell like? The website is vague saying that it is "composed of the lightest, but most volatile essences."

Pamela Anderson's New Perfume Line

Filed under: Cosmetics and Fragrance, Celebrity Design

malibu scentPamela Anderson is stepping into the perfume game with two iterations of her Malibu fragrance named after the beachside town she calls home. Malibu Day/Malibu Pink is a fruity floral with notes of berries, white flowers, vanilla and ambered sandalwood. Malibu Night/Malibu Blue is a moodier scent, an oriental with notes of pomegranate, black orchid mahogany wood, lotus, patchouli and amber.

As Anderson describes it on her website she's been making her own products for years layering various scents. She says that her goal was to "create a fun, sexy fragrance that really captured the beach with soft, gentle touches in a way that lingers." Starting this month, Malibu Day and Malibu Night are going to retail for $39 (1.7oz) and $49 (3.4oz) at CVS/Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Walgreens, Nordstrom, Sears and other department stores and drugstores around the U.S. Maybe this new line will help pay off some of the $4.8 million in debt she has reportedly amassed because of some pricey home renovations.

Kate Moss Goes Vintage

Model and style icon Kate Moss has launched her latest scent, Vintage. This is Moss' fourth scent, her other offerings are Kate, Summer Time and Velvet Hour. Vintage is described as a a fruity floriental fragrance and is meant to be a scented encapsulation of Kate's love of vintage clothes and objects d'art. On vintage objects, Kate Moss says "I am fascinated by vintage pieces because they not only have a remarkable beauty but also an innate sense of history - I love the fact that each object has its own story to tell."

The scent includes notes of pink pepper, white freesia and mandarin with a heart of heliotrope, jasmine and almond flower and base notes of tonka bean, vanilla and skin musks. The bottle was inspired by the Art Deco perfume bottles of the 1920s and 30s. The smoky glass flacon is finely faceted on the front, sides and cap with a rose-gold collar around the neck of the bottle, decorated with vintage inspired filigrees. The print ad shown above was shot by Mert and Marcus. Check out the television and and some behind-the-scenes footage of Kate Moss after the jump.

Win A Bottle Of Natori Perfume

natoriThe name Natori is synonymous with lingerie. Josie Natori has been making soft, sexy chemises and fine undergarments for decades. Her new perfume therefore has a lot of sexiness to live up too. Natori's new scent is a redo of her earlier scent which was done with Avon back in 1984. This one was created by perfumer Caroline Sabas for Parlux fragrances and combines a bit of 1980s headiness with classic perfume glamour. The fragrance is a floral oriental with notes of sparkling aldehydes, rose, plum, ylang-ylang, purple peony, night-blooming jasmine, patchouli, amber and satin musk accord. The perfume is the natural accompaniment to a silk chemise. Check out this great review from Now Smell This.

The new scent is a world away from the pinky, fruity scents of late. This is a more mature scent, strong, sexy, a little old-fashioned, the Dita Von Teese of scent. The scent has been released as a Saks exclusive and sells for $110 for a 3.4 ounce eau du parfum. We are giving away a 3.4 ounce eau du parfum of this passion booster in a purple bottle to one reader.

Porsche Design The Essence Intense

Filed under: Wheels, Cosmetics and Fragrance

If you were trying to capture the essence of a sportscar, what sort of scents would you put in the bottle? Burnt rubber? Leather? Gasoline? How about juniper berries, mandarin orange and myrtle? Because those are exactly the notes which Porsche Design has used in its new fragrance, The Essence Intense.

The follow-up to their original scent, The Essence, launched about a year and a half ago, Intense is a fresh, aromatic and woody fragrance for men. The scent was developed together with Clarins Group – which is responsible, among other things, for the Azzuro line – but since it's a Porsche Design, the bottle has received significant attention, combining smoked frosted glass and black brushed aluminum in a particularly sleek package. Although it's initially available only as a spray eau-de-toilette in 50 and 80 milliliter sprays, expect a whole range of scented products to follow.

Fire and Cream From Strange Invisible Perfumes

fire and creamFire and ice I've heard of but how about fire and cream? That's just one of the perfumes by Alexandra Balahoutis , a beautiful redhead with an unerring nose, who is behind Southern-California-based Strange Invisible Perfumes. Her scents are made of natural, botanical essences combined in ways that turn traditional perfumery on its ear. Instead of using solvents, essences are extracted using organic jojoba oil and set in a base of beverage-quality organic grape alcohol. Fire and Cream layers earthy vetiver, sandalwood, and patchouli with soft white lavender and tuberose and a spark of orange blossom. An eau de parfum 1.7 fl. oz sells for $145. Other heady scents with names like Narcotic and Black Rosette offer similar olfactory intensity. Custom scents are also available.

EXCLUSIVE: Polo Star Nacho Figueras' Ten Essential Luxuries

Welcome to the second installment of our new feature, "10 Luxuries", wherein a notable figure in the world of luxury, tastemaker or stylish personality tells about the 10 necessary luxuries they simply cannot do without. Related quotes and images of each item can be found in the gallery.

World-class professional polo champion Ignacio "Nacho" Figueras is the face of The World of Polo. Already the face of Polo Black, Nacho was recently chosen to represent all of Ralph Lauren's Polo fragrances, including Polo Modern Reserve and Polo Blue, in print and advertising campaigns because he embodies the many facets of today's modern Polo man. Born in Argentina in 1977, Nacho developed a love for horses and the game of polo by the age of nine. By the time he was 17, Figueras began his professional polo career. Nacho's name has become so synonymous with the sport of polo that the American Museum of Natural History looked to Figueras to donate his polo equipment to their 2008-2009 exhibit, "The Horse", and he has been matched against England's Prince William and Prince Harry in the UK's Sandhurst Tournament.

Figueras, who divides his time between the United States and Argentina, is currently playing for Neil Hirsch's Black Watch Polo team in Bridgehampton, New York in the summer and in Palm Beach, Florida during the winter season. He returns to his ranch in Argentina for the spring and fall. Off the field, Nacho's natural charisma made him the face of Ralph Lauren Black Label clothing and the Polo Black fragrance in 2005. In 2007, Polo Ralph Lauren began sponsoring his Black Watch team and debuted a line of Black Watch clothing. "Nacho personifies The World of Polo by living the lifestyle represented by each of the fragrances," says Guillaume de Lesquen, President, Worldwide, Ralph Lauren Fragrances. "When he isn't playing polo in the world's most prestigious tournaments and promoting its heritage as an ambassador, he is sailing with his young family off the coast of Punta del Este, Uruguay and breeding horses on his ranch outside of Buenos Aires."

Small Splurge - Badgley Mischka Couture Parfum Elixir

Badgley Mischka Couture Parfum ElixirEarlier this year, I had the pleasure of meeting of the illustrious Mark Badgley and James Mischka at the launch of their fabulous new fragrance, Badgley Mischka Couture.

"The top notes are sexy, with pear nectar, blackberry, and dark plum. The heart of the fragrance is supremely feminine, achieved with voluptuous gardenia and hints of jasmine and violet. All this floats over a creamy wood and musk base."

One of the most exciting things about this fragrance is their chic little tube of gel -- Badgley Mischka Couture Parfum Elixir. The tube, with its lush velvet bag, is their take on the traditional portable roll-on fragrance, which they feel is too much "like deodorant." Rubbing in this gel is sensual way to apply fragrance, and as it's just slightly larger than a tube of lip gloss (a modest .5 fl. oz.), it's easy to toss into even a clutch purse -- or your carry-on plastic bag for the airport.

Badgley Mischka Couture Parfum Elixir is available from Elizabeth Arden for just $48.00. Also, watch for their new jewelry collection to be presented at Henri Bendel for Fashion's Night Out September 10!

Three New Bond No. 9 Fragrances for Harrods

fragrance perfume cologneLooking for a fresh new fragrance for the coming season? Others may not know about Bond No. 9's three new options created for Harrods so you could be the first to step out with one of these captivating new scents. Choose from Bond No. 9 Harrods for Him, Her or the Swarovski Crystal Edition which is unisex. While this seems like a great treat for yourself it would also make a fantastic gift for someone close to you (you get to pick what they smell like which is fabulous) or a holiday stocking stuffer! Is it too early for me to mention Christmas?

The elegant all-male scent features an herbaceous and woody combination with touches of lavender, sandalwood, violet leaf and musk mingled with rhubarb, star anise, chamomile, and pimento leaves. The purely feminine scent expresses a tuberose base combined with leather, neroli, mandarin, chamomile, clary sage and nutmeg accents amid a background of amber, sandalwood and vetiver. The sensual unisex fragrance highlights the rare Arabian 'oud' botanical resin paired with myrrh and amber notes and sprinkled with black pepper, cumin and vetiver.

Both Bond No. 9 Harrods for Him and for Her are available in 50 ml for £100 or 100 ml for £178. The Unisex Swarovski Crystal Edition is only available in the 100 ml quantity for £495 featuring a crystal depiction of the Harrods building in 1,600 emerald and white sparkling Swarovski gems.

Krigler Sparkling Diamond No. 22

krigler sparkling diamond no 22Venerable perfume company Krigler has set up shop in the Plaza Hotel in New York City offering not just scents but also candles, scrubs, lotions and other body care items. The perfumes come in old-fashioned glass bottles with simple golden tops. The brand's most famous scent is Sparkling Diamond No. 22. The scent was created in Monte Carlo in 1922 and the original had a diamond in the bottle. Other scents to try include the Dolce Tuberose which is full of summer's heady deep florals. The Sparkling Diamond No. 22 is $170 for the 3.4 eau de parfum. Other scents including Mediterranean Peach and Manhattan Rose are $110.

Scent Of A Museum

The Oceanside Museum of Art in Oceanside, California will show an intriguing installation designed not for the eyes but for the nose. Institutional Wellbeing: An olfactory plan for the Oceanside Museum of Art runs from March 29 – August 9, 2009 and was created by conceptual artist Brian Goeltzenleuchter. The exhibit is meant to explore the perception of fragrance as an art media for interior environments whether it be in corporate aesthetics (like Westin's white tea scent perhaps) or in aromatherapy. The end result is a scent named OMA which is meant to capture the olfactory experience of Oceanside Museum of Art.

The fragrance will accompany the exhibition as both a scent presented in the installation and as a retail product available in the museum's store. This isn't Goeltzenleuchter's first scent as installation project, he also created "Institutional Wellbeing: An Olfactory Intervention for the GAU," Grafisch Atelier Utrecht, The Netherlands in 2006. The OMA scent will cost $20 and Goeltzenleuchter describes it in the San Diego Union-Tribune as "a sweet, green smell that immediately transitions into a warm, atmospheric tone underneath with hints of tobacco and tea."

The Scent of Amanda Lepore

Filed under: Cosmetics and Fragrance, Celebrity Design

amanda leporeAmanda Lepore, the glamorous transsexual bombshell who has worked with MAC Cosmetics and walked the runway for Heatherette has joined the celebrity fragrance bandwagon with a rather expensive offering. Lepore's scent is from Artware Editions and was designed by perfumer Christophe Laudamiel of Les Christophs.

The scent includes notes of Tuberose absolute, orris butter, violet and a touch of Cristal champagne. It comes in a disco-ball-shaped bottle wreathed in Swarovski crystals in a black satin coffret with a pink satin atomizer and a booklet full of photographs of Amanda. The fragrance is a limited edition of 5,000 bottles.

NY Times reporter Eric Wilson
didn't seem entirely smitten with the fragrance saying that it "Amanda is supposed to be art, as opposed to, say, the weirdest celebrity fragrance ever." It doesn't seem like that much of a stretch to me, everyone from jazz musicians to race car drivers seems to have their own scent these days. But the $950 price point puts it out of the range of many shoppers. Whether or not there are 5,000 people interested in smelling like Ms. Lepore is another matter.
