Boston is my favorite place to spend the fourth of July but finding a great spot to view the fireworks and hear the concert on the Esplenade can be challenging if you don't have a local friend with a great roof deck. Their Independence Day Perfect View package comes with up to four seats on the Community Boating Dock for the Boston Pops! performance and Charles River fireworks display,dinner for up to four people at Clink, the hotel restaurant, and Veuve Clicquot champagne and dessert at turndown. Prices start at 1,515 per night with a two-night minimum booking.

Etro Red, White and Blue Canvas Satchel, Handbag of the Day

With beautiful red, white and blue colors, this Etro Canvas Satchel might be a good choice for the 4th of July in particular, but it can certainly be used for the rest of the season, if not longer. The linen-canvas bag has leather accents embossed with either crocodile or lizard prints. Accented with gold hardware, the bag has rolled leather handles, protective metal feet and two clasp-closing front pockets. Rather than the open interiour of most totes, this one is divided into three compartments, one of which is a zipped pocket in the center. Patriotic Cakes for the Fourth

Fourth of July celebrations call for a perfect ending, whether it is a bold fireworks display or a show-stopping dessert. Since we like to get the best of all possible options, we're inclined to try and combine our dessert and fireworks experience on the 4th. These patriotic cakes clearly rival most red, white and blue displays and are made by Sam Godfrey, who is apparently Oprah's cake designer. One is a Star Present Cake ($69) and the other is dressed up a large Uncle Sam Hat ($99). Both cakes are chocolate caramel flavored and serve 6-8 guests.
