Floating Budget Hotel Planned For The UK

Britain's largest budget hotel chain, Premier Inn, is creating a new cheapie hotel on water. The Floatel will be built in Hartlepool Marina during 2009 and the company says it will be the first time a budget hotel has been purpose-built on water. The hotel will have 54 bedrooms with ensuite bathroom, TV and Internet access. The hotel's design will allow it to float vertically with the tide and the horizontal movement will be restricted by sleeved piles driven into the marina. The waterfront hotel will be linked to an existing Premier Inn by a pedestrian ramp and an external platform lift.

Queen Elizabeth 2 To Become Floating Hotel

The latest extravagance in Dubai will be the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship. The ship is being sold to the Dubai World firm by Carnival for a cool $100 million. The ship will be turned into a floating hotel located on a pier in the Palm Jumeirah development. The company plans to recreate the original decor and fittings of the ship that she had when she was launched in 1967. The ship has crossed the Atlantic more than 800 times and carried over 2.5 million passengers. She will be docked at the Palm Jumeirah and open for business in 2009.

UnderSea Resorts Going For Malta

I've written about the UnderSea Resort before and their plan to create a floating hotel in the Miami area. It turns out they have now gone European to and are in talks with the Government of Malta to take over the Marsa Shipyard in Malta. The shipyard has one of the longest dry docks in Europe. The company is planning the UnderSea resort and casino for the Qawra Bay in Malta as well as their project off Miami Beach, another in the Bahamas and other ones near New York and San Francisco. The press release from UnderSea makes the Malta negotiations sound like an almost-done deal but a Malta newspaper tells a far different story saying that what they have been shown in inconclusive and vague. I can't say I am exactly surprised, I'd be amazed if any of these ambitious projects actually gets built.
