Lanvin Denim Pom Pom Espadrille And Other Summer Denim Shoes

lanvin denim pom pomThere is an everlasting and classic appeal to denim that is undeniable. It's easy to wear and matches anything that you already own. You can dress it up with heels and bold jewelry or wear casually with a pair of flats or sneakers. Denim is also versatile and has a wide range of uses. We've seen denim used for shirts, jackets, vests, jumpsuits, dresses, bags and of course, shorts. At one point in my life I've worn denim in every which way you can imagine. But I can't say that I've ever worn or wanted to wear denim shoes before - until I came across Lanvin's Pom Pom Espadrille ($319). They have the comfort of a flat sole with a slight cushion mixed with a quirky but ultra cute denim pom pom at the vamp. They are a unexpected and fun alternative to ballet flats that can be paired with a maxi dress, shorts, or even a little romper. See below for other denim shoes that will carry you throughout the seasons.

Kooba Launches Footwear

Kooba Mae
It's no secret that Luxist loves Kooba handbags. We've featured their slouchy, sleek, sophisticated bags as our Handbag of the Day numerous times (click here for Kooba bags we love). As you might imagine, we were overjoyed to hear the brand has lauched a footwear line for Spring 2010.

The Kooba footwear collection, which hit stores this month, is comfortable and chic, encapsulating the effortless glamour which first enchanted us. The Brazil-made collection of wedges and flats incorporates details like python-printed leather, studs and intricate buckles and runs $225 to $385. As for the future, a fall collection is already in the works and will include season-friendly styles like boots and clogs.

Shoes like the Kooba Mae (above, $295) are available from Kooba.com, Zappos.com and Endless.com, as well as many of the boutiques where you already shop Kooba.

D & G Round-Toe Flats

Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian based fashion house famous for its trend setting designs. These unique and playful D&G flats caught my attention, they remind me of the jelly sandals I had in the 80s! Available in eye catching shades, bright pink, lime green, turquoise, or violet and made of satin, it's hard to pick a favorite. Available for $485 on the Neiman Marcus website where any shoe purchase over $200 entitles you to a butterfly shoe bag.

Jean-Michel Cazabat Flats

These chic ballet flats by famed shoe designer Jean-Michel Cazabat are comfortable enough for those long days spent on your feet, but still stylish and fun. Made of python skin and lined with cushy pink padded leather, they feel as luxurious as they look. Available in all the essential basic colors (white, gold and black) they also have that stylish, slightly squared toe that I love. The style is called the Carisma and they cost a somewhat reasonable $525. Available on Barneys.com.

Chloe Buckled Leather Ballerina Flat

hspace=Upgrade your everyday summer flip flop to the more stylish, and possibly more comfortable pair of flats. And who wants to make that annoying flip-flop noise all day long as you walk? Summer flats are you answer. There are mass amounts of flats to choose from - whether by designer, price, color, cut, material, embellishments - whatever you are looking for it is bound to be out there. I came across Chloe's Buckled Leather Ballerina Flat and instantly heard comfort screaming my name. The color is bold yet neutral enough to go with any outfit; however, I would have rather done without the black stitching. Some may say it adds character but I find it to cheapen the overall classy look. Also available in black with white stitching (yikes!). Price: $499. Filed under: Shoes

For the sensbile woman who still desires to be fashionable while her feet are comfortable, flats can be the perfect go-to shoe for the upcoming Summer season. The Alexander McQueen Butterfly Print Flats are made of cream canvas - so protect before wearing so they are easier to maintian a clean look - and have a whimsical feel. I love that the butterflies are not cartoon-like, which allows for a mature look and you don't have to feel silly wearing shoes made for a 12 year old girl. Price: $410.

It's a Diorantik Flat!

I've mentioned in my previous post on the Perfect Flat that I have a soft spot for shoes that keep me close to the ground. With wedding season in full-swing, I've decided to invest in a pair of shoes that will last me through the entire matrimonial social season.

The trouble, of course, is that I have a rainbow array of dresses to which I must match my kicks. I've got the Maid of Honor dress for my sister's wedding (pale blue), the bridesmaid dress for my best friend's wedding  (bright pink), and the all-purpose-guest-dress for the other four weddings I must attend (lime green).

Finding a pair of shoes to wear with all of these colors is not for the faint of heart. That's why I've got my eye on Christian Dior's Diorantik flat. This Grecian-inspired sandal has snakeskin-print, braided straps and gold metal Dior buckles. But best of all, they match everything. Price: $485.

They are Diorantik, Diorlicious, and Diormatic!

The Perfect Flat

True confession: I never wear high-heels. Why? Well, as a very tall woman who is dating a not-so-tall man, I have a hard time justifying, both to myself and to my fellow, those few extra inches of altitude. While I recognize that certain shoes are more flattering for your legs, the fact still remains: I hate heels.

Because I hate heels, I've been on a life-long quest for a closet full of perfect flats. In my experience, finding great flats in black is never much of a challenge. However, finding a pair of decent-looking neutral-colored flats? Well, that's like trying to find virtue in the Red Light District of Amsterdam. Good luck with that one, ladies.

But then I found Pedro Garcia's nude satin round-toed flat sold on-line at milk. While the shape is so Audrey Hepburn a la Roman Holiday, the details are anything but retro-quaint. With raw edges and a silver chain across the toes, these shoes offer everything a modern girl could want from a shoe that is not a heel. And at the risk of sounding completely hysterical, I must say, I hope that when I die, I am buried in these shoes.

It's a tall girl's dying wish...

What are the top trends in women's shoes this season? Think heels that are very, very high. Think wedges that tower. And think pointy heels that are super-aggressive. But the look isn't all tough, with feminine touches like bows, ribbons and polka dots softening the look for spring.

Look for plenty of fierce-looking, "Gladiator"-inspired footwear this spring, including Alexander McQueen's leather strappy sandal. Price: $695.
