Gilt Groupe Puts Jettas Up For Sale

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Yesterday I mentioned a BMW up for sale on DailyWish. Gilt Groupe is in the car business this week too, selling a VW Jetta on their private flash sale site. The special deal carves off $10,000 from the price of the cars sold at Volkswagen dealerships. The low price of $5,995 each is only for Gilt members and will be offered for three days. The WSJ reports that access to today's sale will is available through Gilt's mobile applications on iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Android devices. For the next two days the sales will be on Gilt.com as well as the mobile apps. The cars will be presented in "Gilt Gold" wrapping and about $18,000 in proceeds from the sales will be donated to the charity Dress for Success.

Luxury Daily questioned
whether or not this move is a smart one for Gilt because the Jetta is outside the luxury purview. But as our reviewer Jonathon Ramsey saw earlier this year, the new Jetta handles itself quite well and does offer a quality driving experience.

Lot 18: Private Sales Come To The World Of Wine

The world of private sales is coming to wine. Philip James (founder of Snooth.com) is behind Lot18.com, a new invitation-only site that will sell wine in a flash sale style format with limited runs and savings of up to 60 percent. The new company recently completed a $3 million Series A round of funding led by FirstMark Capital, a New York City-based venture capital firm.

Lot18's procurement team curates and presents the offer, with the sale and shipping managed by the winery. Wine sales online continue to grow but state-by-state shipping rules have made total domination problematic. Lot18 matches consumers directly with top wineries across the country and plans to position itself as a trusted source of information about quality wines. Lot18's partners so far include Cornerstone Winery, Boisset Family Estates, and Foley Family Estates.

Lot 18 is offering 500 invites to Luxist.com readers. To get yours click here: http://www.lot18.com/invite/luxist

Wine.com Launches Flash-Sale Site WineShopper.com

It is about time that the members-only flash sale has come to the most popular virtual source for vino. What Tablet Hotel's private sales are to lodging, Wine.com's has launched WineShopper.com will be the same for premium wines and champagnes: a place to buy the finest fermented elixirs at up to 70% off during a 72-hour window... or until they sell out. Wine.com's offering joins other wine sales sites such as WineTwitsDeals and the joyously named WineWoot.

Standard procedure would be to register at the site to receive daily e-mails on sales, but you can also get Twitter notifications or find out the scoops on Facebook. Last we checked, a bottle of Veuve required just $29.99, and a Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cab set you back $49.99. WineShopper is even offering a gift of Riedel glasses if you recommend enough friends to the site, but be sure to think that through – your friends might just make the deal you were after sell out more quickly...
