Napoleon LDH50 Limited Edition Swarovski Fireplace

Napoleon Swarovski fireplace
There's something magical and relaxing about watching a fire burn, and in many homes the fireplace is designed to be the focal point so choosing the right design is paramount. This gas-powered contemporary design comes from Napoleon Fireplaces in Kentucky and boasts a remote control for starting the fire, controlling flame height, and adjusting the temperature but what really makes it special are the Crystallized Swarovski elements that fill the ember bed. Lit from above by the flames and from below by Napoleon's exclusive Crystalites system, the Swarovski elements reflect light beautifully in every possible direction and make the fireplace just as much a work of art as anything.

Available in both one and two-sided versions the limited edition LDH50 fireplace starts at $13,000.

Heat Things Up with FIREBO-X

fireplace
On a day like today when it is only in the single-digits outside the appeal of convenient fireplaces certainly increases in my mind. I'm especially taken with the portability and sleek design of the FIREBO-X from Schulte Design. Perfect for any space, no matter how compact, both indoors and out the FIREBO-X brings ambiance, warmth and style to any place. If you don't want to leave it out you can easily store it as well. Schulte also offers a slightly larger version featuring a reflective back panel to enhance the mood and two low-profile drawers for storage. Wish I knew the price but on a day like today it would be hard to say "no" to extra heat no matter the cost.

Conmoto Portable Fireplace

The Travelmate Portable Fireplace by Conmoto is made of black powder-coated steel and glass with an adjustable steel fuel-holder and burns on bio-ethanol liquid fuel (not included). Now you can put a fireplace where you want or need it for warmth or atmosphere. It's smokeless too. Safe to place on carpet, a table, near furniture, or outside. The glass pane is held on with magnets and only is removed in order to light the fire. Once the glass pane has been replaced, the fuel tank can be opened and closed, using the stainless steel slide at the front of the fireplace, so the flames can be regulated from the outside. I would love this in my home! Dimensions: 20" H x 28" W x 8" D, 55 lbs. ($3,300)

Of course there are more models than I could count, but nothing I have seen has ever been this amazing. Enjoy the gallery and the fireside days to come!

Starline Vendome Stove Fireplace

Fireplaces have been bringing a sense of cozy elegance to rooms every since they were replaced functionally by the invention of central heating and ended up falling into the "extra" and "decorative" categories. And even though they're fairly common, whenever somebody has one there's always that little mental note in the back of your mind thinking 'nice!' and if you don't have your own at home that thought is usually followed by a pang of jealousy.

So the solution is to make sure that you do have your own at home, and why not one of these Vendome Stove fireplaces? They're made to burn 7-14 hours and designed for both maximum ease of use and maximum safety. The unique cylindrical design looks great anywhere, either free-standing or up against a wall or corner. $6,328

You could hope your new house comes with a really cool piece of stained glass or vintage fireplace mantels or you could make your own luck by picking up a vintage piece from Architectural Artifacts, a company which I wrote about back in 2005 for their wrought iron specialties. They have stained glass, wood and marble fireplace mantels, lighting, doors, tiles, religious artifacts and amazing artifacts such as a the entire entrance of the Hillbrook mansion. The carved limestone entryway from Hillbrook, the estate of George Arents in Purchase, N.Y., includes a raised panel entry door. It sells for $135,000.

Ferro & Fuoco Fire Tools

Finally! The weather has cooled down to the point where we can light a fire at night without having to wear tank tops to sit near it. While working with some trusty old fire tools, the thought of getting some new and improved ones is appealing. The Ferro & Fuoco Fire Tools from Ameico are elegant, but are made from iron salvaged from unused railroad tracks. Hand-forged, the shovel, tongs, and poker can be mounted on the wall or kept in a basket, depending on how you prefer to display them. Price: $600.

Vertigo Fireplace

Traditional fireplaces require so much space, upkeep and ventillation that they just aren't in the cards for many homes, especially not if you live in an apartment or condo. The Vertigo Fireplace, from West Country Fires, has none of the drawbacks to a tradiitonal ireplace and can still fill any room with warmth and light. It is a gas-powered fire that is flueless and needs no ventillation to run safely. In fact, it uses a unique catalytic system that burns the "odorous and stale air in the room and efficiently return warm and neutral air back into your airspace." The Vertigo comes with a template to mount it on the wall. Price: $2,450 (£1,299).

Vision Steel Fireplace Tool Set

While it's still quite warm to be thinking about the cold days and colder nights of winter, there is no harm in being prepared - especially since you can use the Vision Steel Fireplace Tool Set with your patio fire pit in addition to an indoor fireplace. The black-matte coated steel tools include a poker, a shovel and a brush, all of which have stainless steel handles. The triangular stand is also stainless steel and takes up very little space; the whole unit measures 29.5"x10"x10". Price: $628.

Table Top Fireplace

Fireplaces are not relied upon for light and heat to the degree that they once were, if at all, and now serve more often as an accent piece, a live-action art display. The Table Top Fireplace is a miniature oil-burning fireplace that looks like a work of art but doubles as a light source, giving it a degree of functionality that most other fireplaces lack. It measures only 10"x14" and is made of stainless steel "logs" on a slate base. Use it as an accent in an office or take it outside when entertaining as a substitute for a firepit. Price: $340.
