Ferrari Confirms AWD Hatchback Ferrari

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Ferrari Confirms AWD Hatchback FerrariFerrari has unveiled its first-ever four-wheel drive car -- a four-seat, V-12 hatchback styled by Pininfarina called the FF (for Ferrari Four).

The FF replaces Ferrari's flagship 612 Scaglietti, and will make its official debut at the Geneva show in March.

The 6.3 V12 (6262cc) develops 651 horsepower and 504 lb ft of torque. The powerplant is good for 335kph and a swift 0-100kph time of 3.7 seconds.

The exotic car drives the four wheels via the dual-clutch F1 gearbox already seen in the California and the 458 Italia models.

The Pininfarina-designed shape seems an evolution of the company's 599 and 612 designs [see gallery]. The bold lines of the 458 Italia can also be seen.

The "shooting brake"style body marries a long nose to a small estate style cabin, which has an elongated roof that extends back down to meet a scalloped rear with round tail lamps embedded in the rear flanks. Twin-exhausts poke out each side of the rear.

Pricing not announced yet.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Comte Noir by Graf Weckerle

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

A German tuning house has started up, and their claim to fame is intricately crafted wheels with a fleur-de-lis pattern. The ones on this Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, called the Comte Noir edition, take 20 days to make, forged as they are from titanium and aluminum.

Graf Weckerle has also given the Ferrari a boost in output from 620 horsepower to 835, along with suspension upgrades. The result is the Comte Noir edition – French for "black count" – and it's available for order now.

Ferrari SA Aperta

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

After much trepidation and anticipation, Ferrari has finally released details and photos of its latest model. Called the SA Aperta, it's based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, only it's missing the roof.

In its place, Ferrari has increased the car's rigidity and installed a makeshift folding cloth roof. The name pays homage to Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina (the heads of the eponymous design house, hence the SA) while indicating its open-air body-style (Aperta). Only 80 examples will be made, making the SA Aperta one of the most exclusive Ferraris ever produced.

The SA Aperta follows a long line of limited-production V12 convertibles from Ferrari that has included such recent examples as the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina and the 575 SuperAmerica. Ferrari is also expected to unveil an environmentally-oriented concept based on the California at the upcoming Paris Auto Salon.

A Closer Look at the Ferrari 599 GTO

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Claiming the mantle of the fastest Ferrari ever made is no mean feat. And this is the car that did it: the new 599 GTO. Reviving the stoic nameplate from the 60s-era 250 GTO and the 80s-era 288 GTO, the new ultimate Ferrari packs a 660-horsepower, 6-liter V12 – an improved version of the engine originally developed for the Enzo – for a 3.3-second 0-60 run.

Unfortunately only 559 examples will be built, each fetching a price upwards of €300,000. So your best chance of seeing one very well may be in the new gallery of images which Ferrari has released.

Ferrari Expected to Unveil 599 Roadster at Pebble Beach

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The Ferrari 599 has only been in production for about four years now, but it has already spawned a seemingly endless array of derivatives: the original GTB Fiorano, the track-focused 599XX, the all-conquering GTO, the tweaked HGTE, the China limited edition, the one-of-a-kind P540 Superfast Aptera and the HY-KERS concept. But before the model is replaced altogether, Ferrari is anticipated to unveil one last version at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this coming August.

Following in the footsteps of the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina and the 575M Superamerica, the 599 convertible will be a limited edition at the top of the Ferrari range. We'll have to wait and see what kind of convertible roof mechanism the always innovative sportscar-maker employs for the exclusive roadster, but the company's chairman Luca di Montezemolo says it will carry an "emotional, romantic name such as Italia or Fiorano".

Ferrari Unveils the New 599 GTO

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

ferrari 599 GTO

If you're looking for the new king of the supercars, look no further, because this is it: the Ferrari 599 GTO. Based on the 599 GTB Fiorano, the GTO follows in the stoic path of the legendary 250 GTO and 288 GTO, three models separated by two decades each but which stood at the forefront of performance in their respective eras. And the 599 GTO is no different.

Bridging the gap between the production 599 GTB and the experimental 599XX, the 599 GTO benefits from that magic formula of less weight, more power. Improving on the Fiorano's 612-horsepower 6-liter V12, the GTO produces 661 prancing stallions, motivating 430 fewer pounds. The result is a 0-62 time of 3.35 seconds and a top speed in excess of 208 miles per hour.

Only 599 examples will be made, which is more than the Enzo, but probably less than demand. Pricing is tipped to come in just below the half-a-million-dollar mark, making it less expensive than the Enzo as well. And at 1 minute, 24 seconds, the GTO is also faster than the Enzo around Ferrari's private Fiorano test track. And that's no mean feat.

Ferrari to Show Off 599 Hybrid at Geneva Motor Show

Ferrari 599XX – Click above for a high-res image gallery

News of an impending hybrid from Ferrari are nothing new, but now we appear to have an actual date when the Italian supercar manufacturer plans to show such a vehicle in an official setting. And it's coming soon, during the first week in March at the Geneva Motor Show, says Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo.

The announcement came during the unveiling of Ferrari's new F10 Formula One car, which seems appropriate as it was during the 2009 F1 season when Ferrari first began using its Kinetic Energy Recovery System – a kind of hybrid technology that captures energy normally lost to braking in a flywheel – in actual competition... with mixed results, of course.

We can't say for sure what kind of hybrid setup Ferrari will show off in its 599 supercar, but something similar in principle to the race-bred KERS seems like a distinct possibility, and we know the automaker has been dabbling in all-wheel drive hybrids as well. In any case, Ferrari promises a production hybrid vehicle in the near future. Stay tuned.

Ferrari to Auction Off Unique Hand-Painted 599 China Special in Beijing

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Auctions, Charity

A Ferrari's a coveted object. A limited edition Ferrari even more so. But a one-of-a-kind Ferrari is another ballgame altogether. The path to the unique creation you see here passed through all those phases, and then some.

The Italian exotic automaker recently updated its flagship 599 GTB Fiorano supercar with the Handling GT Evoluzione package and took its dynamic performance to another level. But for the Chinese market, Ferrari unveiled a limited run of 12 special editions, with unique design touches carried out by Chinese artist Lu Hao. And of those 12, one has been made even rarer.

The artist has taken this solitary example and hand painted a greenish pearl white pattern reminiscent of the coveted Ge Liln porcelain of the Song dynasty. It's the only one of its kind to be made, and will be auctioned off for charity at a special event to be held in Beijing on November 3, where one collector/benefactor will drive away in this most special of special editions.

Ferrari Offers 599 Limited Edition for China

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Red Prancing Horse, meet the Red Dragon. As mainland China steadily moves away from a communist system to a capitalist economy, the country and the upper crust of its billion+ inhabitants have turned into a vital market for Ferrari, and to mark the growing centrality of the Chinese market to Maranello's global expansion, Ferrari has made this special edition 599 GTB Fiorano.

Designed in conjunction with Chinese artist Lu Hao, the 599 China Limited Edition features such unique details as a rev-counter with ancient Chinese characters, a jade-green starter button and special fitted luggage decorated with the Silk Road that Italian explorer Marco Polo took across China. Add to that the HGTE performance package and a gray roof to mirror the experimental 599XX's and you've got one very special edition indeed. But Ferrari will only be offering a dozen examples, exclusively available in China.

Keep in Tune with the Novitec Rosso Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We can imagine the frustration. You a third of a million dollars on a new Ferrari, then you pull up in front of your favorite restaurant and there are three more just like it. So what do you do? Novitec will help you out. The Dutch tuning house has made its reputation on modifying Maranello's finest. And since the 599 GTB Fiorano has been on the market for a few years already, the company's dedicated Ferrari tuning division, Novitec Rosso, has already had a go at the flagship V12 supercar. But not everyone is on the market for a twin-supercharged 800-horsepower monster. So Novitec has now released a more moderate package for the Fiorano.

Novitec's Stage 3 kit for the 599 keeps it simple with a modification to the engine control system and a new exhaust to boost power up by 40 prancing horses, for a total of 660. They've also fitted an adjustable suspension, 21" wheels, a carbon fiber aerodynamic package and offer a full range of options for customizing the interior as well. Prices start at 10,490 Euros, on top of the base car's $302k list price.

Ferrari 599 HGTE Package Now Available from Your Local Dealership

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Exotic automakers are constantly tweaking and fine-tuning their products to stay ahead of the competition. Just look at recent examples like the Lamborghini Gallardo Valentino Balboni edition or Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster. But if you've already got one in your garage, you'll have to pony up all over again to get the new version...if you can get your hands on one. Ferrari, on the other hand, has taken a different approach with its revised 599 HGTE. Upgrading on the existing 599 GTB Fiorano, the HGTE package was unveiled at the Geneva auto salon just a few months ago bearing a host of improvements to the car's performance, handling and styling. But rather than leave its existing owners in a cloud of exhaust smoke and burnt rubber, Ferrari has announced that it is making the HGTE package available to existing owners of its premier V12 supercar.

Launching first in the UK, the HGTE package – complete with comprehensively revised suspension, grippier wheels and tires, a new exhaust system and more – can be had for £17,213 (about $28k in American greenbacks). For owners of newer models equipped with Ferrari's F1-derived sequential gearbox, an upgrade to the throttle response and transmission shift times is also available for an extra £2490. The kit can be installed by any certified local Ferrari dealer, and the only thing which the factory-equipped version gets that the upgrade package lacks is the interior trim kit.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano by Ed Hardy

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Celebrity Design

The Christian Audigier style has grown so pervasive with the Ashton Kutcher set that it's long since leapt off of t-shirts and is attaching itself to everything else. French wine is one example, but the fashion designer behind such labels as Ed Hardy and Von Dutch has been eagerly making his mark, one way or another, on automobiles. First there was the Ed Hardy edition Smart car, then came the Chrisitian Audigier edition Lamborghini Murcielago, followed by the Ducati Monster we brought you recently and a custom Mercedes CL63 AMG too. And now another addition to the Audigier automotive design portfolio has emerged in the form of a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. Making Lapo Elkann's ride seem reserved by comparisson, this unique Ferrari is decked out in more tattoo art than a biker rally, and goes to show that if you have the money, Audigier will be glad to "improve" your car for you.

Ferrari President's 599 GTB Fiorano in Online Charity Auction

ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

Choosing which Ferrari to buy can be a tough decision. The raw performance of the 430 Scuderia? The dynamic superiority of the 599?The versatility of the new California, with its retractable hard-top? And that's just the model...once you've got that down, there is a seemingly endless range of options available, including a limitless array of exterior colors. Might we suggest, then, that you let the chairman decide for you, and help out a good cause while you're at it.

For the first time ever, Ferrari is auctioning off a vehicle online. And it's not just any Ferrari, either: this example is the personal ride of one Mr. Luca di Montezemolo, a hereditary marquis, chief of the Formula One Teams Association, chairman of the entire Fiat group and president of Ferrari since Enzo himself passed on. Montezemolo is putting his own ride - in Rosso Monza with charcoal interior and outfitted with carbon-ceramic brakes, optional 20" wheels, sat-nav and iPod connectivity - on the virtual auction block to raise funds for research fellowships. The auction is taking place right now, so follow the link to head over and check it out for yourself.

More Details and Photos on Ferrari's Experimental 599XX Supercar

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

At a company as high-end as Ferrari, all customers are equal, but some are more equal than others. Those ones are the customers who get to participate in the company's exclusive XX development programs. And by "get to", we mean fork over a couple of million to play factory test driver with their own track-focused machinery. The initiative launched a few years ago with the FXX, a supercar based on the Enzo but with all sorts of added experimental technology which Ferrari has been toying with in the effort to make their incredibly fast cars go even faster. The FXX Evoluzione followed, with an even more extreme package, but at last months' Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari took the wraps off an altogether different beast: the 599XX.

Based on the all-conquering 599 GTB Fiorano, the 599XX features a host of modifications to its drivetrain and aerodynamics to turn an already phenomenal performance machine into a fire-breathing monster. Ferrari has only now released official details and photographs, revealing some of the advancements developed for the 599XX: thanks to reduced inertia, the V12 engine can rev up to 9000 rpm and produce 700 horsepower. The carbon-fiber brakes keep everything in check, while active aerodynamics ensure that the car has the optimal effect, reducing drag at high speeds while increasing downforce for cornering. As a result, the 599XX is faster around the race track than any roadgoing Ferrari in existence, and faster even than some of the company's race cars. Ferrari Debuts Tweaked 599 HGTE in Geneva

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

It doesn't get much better than the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. It's got the engine from the Enzo supercar in a package more suited towards everyday driving and is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic vehicles on the road. But Ferrari didn't get where it is today by sitting on their fine-leather laurels, and with that in mind the Italian sportscar company and racing team released a new package for the 599 called the Handling GT Evoluzione.

The tuned suspension on the 599 HGTE features stiffer springs, beefed-up roll bars and retuned magnetic viscosity shock absorbers, resulting in a lower ride height, complemented by new 20-inch split-five-spoke modular wheels wrapped in new tires. The advanced F1-derived transmission has also been updated, as has the exhaust system, while inside the cabin has been revised with leather, Alcantara suede and carbon fiber. No word on pricing, but considering that the existing 599 retails for over $300k, this is definately one of those "if you have to ask..." moments.
