Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari for Fernando Alonso & Felipe Massa

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Celebrity Shopping, Sports

Call it a junior Ferrari or a senior Fiat, but the Abarth 695 is all kinds of awesome. As well it should be, with a $47,000 sticker price. And who better to drive the "Tributo Ferrari", as the car is dubbed, than Ferrari's two star drivers?

On their way to claiming a devastating 1-3 finish at this past weekend's Italian Grand Prix, the Fiat Group's performance division handed the keys for these sought-after hot hatchbacks to both Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. It may not be as fast as the Maseratis, Ferraris or Ducatis they've received previously, but a certain expression about a gift horse – a prancing one at that – comes to mind.

F1 Champ Fernando Alonso Gets a Free Custom Ducati

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Celebrity Shopping

Two-time world champion Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso is stocking up on high-end Italian toys now that he's in pole position for Ferrari. Back in March we reported that he'd splashed out on a new Maserati GranCabrio from Ferrari's sister marque, selecting a dark gray model with a two-tone beige and bordeaux interior with matching bordeaux roof. Now another iconic Italian brand known for its superfast machines – Ducati – has gifted the champ with a wicked custom Desmosedici RR (above). The $60,000 superbike is painted in a combination of Ducati MotoGP and Ferrari F1 graphics, matching Alonso's race livery. Now that he has a Ducati, observers are looking for Alonso to make good on his challenge to 9-times Grand Prix World Championship motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi. We'll see.

F1 Champion Fernando Alono's Thumbs Insured for $14 million

The world has no shortage of celebrity performers insuring their limbs for all they're worth. Soccer star David Beckham reportedly has a $70 million policy out on his legs and feet. Michael "Lord of the Dance" Flatley's legs are insured for $39 million. And Heidi Klum's are insured for $2.2 million. Fernando Alonso, however, went a different route.

The latest reports indicate that the two-time Formula One world champion – who recently took possession of some serious wheels for on-road use – has taken out a $14 million policy... on his thumbs. The insurance is provided by Santander, the firm that sponsored him when he was at McLaren and has since followed him to Ferrari. According to the company, the importance of Alono's thumbs extend beyond his driving skills, and stand as a symbol of his dominance in the sport.

Lucky Gets Luckier: Fernando Alonso's Ferrari 458 Italia

Just when you thought Fernando Alonso couldn't get any luckier. The guy's the only driver ever to really beat Michael Schumacher at his own game during his prime, and now he's got his job. He's a two-time world champion, probably makes more money than just about anyone else on the grid (or in any other sport, for that matter), and has already won his debut grand prix with Ferrari. To cap things off, the Spaniard just took possession of a brand new Maserati GranCabrio.

What, still not enough? How about throwing a new Ferrari 458 Italia into the mix? According to reports, Alonso's contract with the Scuderia stipulated his receiving a 458 in exactly these specifications: painted Bianco Fuji (otherwise known as pearl white) with his signature logo embroidered onto the seat backs. It was spotted recently at the company's headquarters in Maranello, and brought to us by the mavens over at FerrariChat by our star tipster Patrick.

If you were driving a high-strung performance machine like a Ferrari F1 car for a living, what would you want to drive in your down-time? Probably something like a Maserati GranCabrio, known Stateside as the GranTurismo Convertible. Which is precisely what Fernando Alonso has picked out for himself.

The two-time world champion F1 driver recently moved to Ferrari, and is off to a great start already. When he was at Renault, he drove a Megane RS. When at McLaren-Mercedes, an Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Now that he's at Ferrari, he chose to go with something a little more relaxed, and called up his employer's sister company Maserati to make it happen. His selection is decked out in dark gray with a two-tone beige and bordeaux interior with matching bordeaux roof. Nice choice, Fernando!
