Marni Rubber Necklace, Jewelry From Recycled Tires

I came across Marni's Necklace and was drawn to its simple beauty. The colorful bows and feathers against a deep black backdrop together create an eye catching piece. I especially liked the mix of texture and shapes that were used. Upon seeing it, I initially thought it was made from beads but was pleasantly surprised to discover that it's made from recycled tires. If I had the ability I would definitely try to make a necklace that is "inspired by" Marni's Rubber Necklace ($445).

It's such a treat to find items that have used recycled material to create something new. Who knew you could make neckties out of cassette tapes? That is pretty amazing. And even though this has been going on for quite some time and we are exposed to a wide array of items that we can use in practically all facets of our lives, I am still amazed by the ingenious minds that are behind instilling new life into materials that may initially appear useless.

I love it when shoes get a little crazy and this Valentino pair of Feather Trimmed Satin Sandals is a perfect example. The sandals themselves are nothing to write home about, being simple 4 1/2" heels in strappy khaki satin with black satin trim. But then comes the fun part: the asymmetrical black rooster feather trim that soars several inches for a floaty, fantasy effect that will surely make you the fashion maven of any party. Sadly I imagine it will be hard to wear this pair more than once or twice, as the feathers will surely take a beating even just walking around. $895

The Lauren Merkin Lotte Feather-Print Clutch is a bright, feathery bag without all the fuss.

Carrying around a clutch that is essentially handful of feathers is certainly glamorous, but it's not always practical. You never want to put such a bag down anywhere, lest the feathers get smooshed, and heaven help you if it rains.

This bag creates a fun, flirty feather look -- but the genius of it is the coloring. Not only is it pretty, but feathers this color don't exist. If the silk were printed with an attempt at real-looking feathers, it would just look fake and half-hearted. Well done, Lauren Merkin, for making this soft silk print look intentional and classy.

Miniaudiere's have always been less handbag and more jewelry, a sort of half-ling of the accessory world. These creations by Tamlin & The Fall are no exception, practically taking the place of a beautiful bracelet or other adornment (quite literally in the case of the Shell design) when you carry them as a handbag.

All made to order and cast individually using over a pound of precious metal, shown above is the polished sterling silver version with other options including blackened (oxidized) sterling, matte (acid finished) sterling, or solid 18k polished gold. Linings come in matte black alligator or natural rattlesnake, tassels are hand-dyed feathers, and all miniaudieres come snuggled in a handmade wooden box lined in deerskin. Prices start at $19,800.

I don't think I could necessarily carry this Cancan Feathered Clutch (it reminds me too much of something a Vegas dancer should be wearing on her head) but that doesn't mean it's not fashionable and fun for someone else to buy.
