Gustto Costella Shopper, Handbag of the Day

I love the details on this bag. The bright white leather shopper is dressed up with a wide strip of leather dotted with resin 'stones' held in place by gold-tone grommets. They look like bubbles and make me think of parties and Champagne. The clear vinyl strips around the bag and on the corners don't do much for me, but they mostly disappear anyway. With wide straps and a large zip top, the bag opens to zip, wall and cell phone pockets. It measures 17 ½"W x 15"H x 1"D and has a 10" strap drop. $855.

I love the slouchy and casual look of this bag. Dark olive suede is gathered through double strips of leather, adding to the slouch factor and creating roomy pockets on both sides of the bag. With just a touch of metal in the small buckle details on the sides and handle, the bag secures with a hidden magnetic closure. Inside, it is lined in similarly colored cotton and has a large main compartment with one zip and two slide pockets. $615.00

The leaves on the trees may have turned to red, yellow and gold, but this mossy green bag will warm things up nicely. What could be cozier than a soft suede bag trimmed in deep chocolate leather? This bucket-style bag has a simple adjustable shoulder strap and two smart-looking front pockets. Other than the brushed nickel hardware on the pocket trim and strap, the only embellishment to be found is the woven strip of leather up the front. With slim leather piping on the seams and a canvas lining, the bag features four interior accessory pockets and measures 16 ¼" L X 12" H X 5" D. $425.

From Mulberry's Autumn/Winter 2007 collection, the shiny patent leather Mabel bag is a beautiful way to put some color in your day. With gold tone hardware and tasseled zip pulls, it looks smart and funky at the same time. It has a clean, compact look about it and I love the extra wide handles and matching luggage tag. I love the berry color, but this studded bag looks like it might be a little painful to carry as a clutch. I suppose that is why it was designed with short strap that allows the bag dangle prettily from your wrist instead of tucked up under your arm. If you like gold-tone buckles, this is the bag for you - there are two on each side, three on the front and one more on the wristlet. That's a lot of buckles for one bag. $1495.

Betsey be very, very good with this satchel. The soft burgundy leather is just barely pleated and the perforated corner details really make things pop. I love the contrast and the minimal use of brass-tone hardware on the handle, strap and studded accents. The 5 inch drop handles are kind of short, but attach the 16 inch shoulder strap and you can be hands-free. Inside are two open pockets and a printed faux-quilt logo lining. $325.

While I totally love the embellished fabric and the convertible-ness of this bag, I am not sure about the fold-over logo plate. It looks great when worn as a clutch, but a little awkward sticking up like this. The zip top runs right through the tan and brown striped logo plate, which spells out Fendi in tonal python trim and is topped off with a simple strap. The wine-colored fabric is dotted with paillettes, or sequins, and lined in cotton with an interior zip pocket. Do you love it? $5040.

I absolutely love the colorful print on this bag. Designed by French textile artist Madame Paule Marrot, the warmly colored geometric pattern will heat up a cool fall afternoon. This is actually the back side of the satchel - the reverse has a large leather patch with a zip pocket covering most of the beautiful print. Made from Italian vegetable tanned leather, the bag features three more pockets inside and is lined in a coordinating fabric. The shoulder strap is adjustable and the limited edition bag measures 15 1/2"L x 9"H x 4"D. It is also available in two other gorgeous prints. $335.

Lulu Guinness remains one of my favorite handbag designers. Her bags are instantly recognizable for their unique and whimsical design. This one, from the Autumn/Winter 2007 collection, depicts a 1950's furniture shop scene embroidered upon black patent leather. I love the details - especially the star-burst clock hanging on the wall of the shop and the L.G. monogram on the door. I also like the shape - a large box with a full sized zip closure. It is a cute bag with a retro vibe. £195.00.

It's 95 degrees where I live, but just looking at this bag makes me think of the falling leaves and cool breezes of Autumn. Although I am not ready to pull out the boots and sweaters just yet, this wine colored suede satchel would look great when the time is right. Trimmed in crocodile embossed leather, the roomy bag sports gold-tone hardware and pockets galore: two zippered pockets on the front as well as interior zip, cell phone and MP3 pockets. With 8-inch-drop rolled leather straps, the bag will sit snugly just under the arm. Also available in other cool-weather colors: black and chocolate. $298.
