Mink Eyelashes For Celeb-Style Eyes

mink eyelashes
Just about any red carpet event features actresses batting impossibly long lashes. One of their secrets is mink. Jennifer Lopez and Madonna are just two of the celebrities who have worn mink eyelashes which can sell for $1,000. Now Aira Cosmetics is offering mink to the masses. Mink eyelashes are created using individually selected mink fur hairs that have been harvested by brushing live farm animals. The hairs are sterilized and hypoallergenic. The long style of the lashes sell for $250.

Black Lace Eyes from Tokyo Lash Bar 2008

Shu Uemura has paired up with fashion designers Victor & Rolf to create what can only be described as an outrageously fun collection of false eyelashes that's part of their Tokyo Lash Bar 2008. The Victor & Rolf "Couture Collection" consists of three pairs of lashes called Swirl Couture, Wing Couture, and Rhombus Couture that sell for $95 a pair, and other lashes in this year's group are even more fun and sell for slightly less -- like these black lace lashes and velvet feather lashes for $50 each.

Give you any Halloween ideas? The lashes just might enough costume all on their own.

No More False Eyelashes

A new surgical procedure might just be the next big thing to hit the Hollywood set in the name of youth and beauty: eyelash transplants. No longer will women look to false eyelashes to meet their expectations of beauty because they can have them permanently enhanced. The lashes are put on using the same "plug and sew" technique used in regular hair transplants for balding men and about 30-40 lashes are individually sewn onto the eyelid. Only a handful of surgeons use the technique, but some say that the enhancement should catch on quickly. "Eyelash transplantation does for the eyes what breast augmentation does for the figure," said one surgeon. Only local anesthetic and light sedation are necessary, and the whole surgery only costs about $3,000 per eye.

Diamond Eyelashes

Last month, we saw Shu Uemura's Feathered Fantasy Eyelashes, fake eyelashes that were decorated with real feathers for a very unusual look, but Uemura also came out with something even more impressive. The designer created a set of diamond-studded false lashes for Madonna and will now be selling pairs of the .75-carat lashes at seven Neiman Marcus stores for $10,000 per pair. If you've got the extra cash on hand, you can probably get your very own diamond-studded lashes, but for everyone else, Uemura also has another set that give you the look of silvery diamonds at a fraction of the price, since they don't use the real stones.

With celebs playing up dark-rimmed eyes with heavy lashes, it's not surprising to see false eyelashes more prominently displayed. The limited edition Fantasy Eyelashes from shu uemura are decorated with real feathers to give the wearer a very unique look. One pair is chocolate brown, with white speckles, and the other option is for jewel-toned blue, black and green lashes that are reminiscent of a peacock's feathers. Price: $50 each pair.
