Hyundai Announces Pricing for Equus Signature and Equus Ultimate

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

When Hyundai, of all companies, delved into the luxury market with the Genesis, it offered a compelling package: a competitor to established luxury marques from Japan and Germany with a price tag that significantly undercut them all. The success of the Genesis program prompted Hyundai to bring in their top-of-the-line Equus luxury sedan, previously offered only in its Korean home market, but now ready to challenge the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Lexus for the coveted American luxury market.

Hyundai has now announced US pricing for its flagship model: the Signature trim level comes in at $58,000. The premier Equus Ultimate, meanwhile, tricks out the rear cabin with reclining seats, an entertainment system, refrigerator and power headrests, all for $64,500. Which may seem like a lot for a Hyundai, but undercuts its rivals' pricing significantly.

Authorized dealerships will get specially-trained agents, customers will get a Genesis to drive while their car is in service (with no-cost maintenance for 5 years/60,000 miles) and an Apple iPad loaded with the owner's manual. Deliveries begin in December.

Hyundai to Offer Luxury Models with All-Wheel Drive

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We may not have believed it if you told us a few years ago, but Hyundai of all automakers is making serious headway into the premium market, taking on the Japanese luxury marques with aplomb. The Genesis coupe and sedan and the recently launched Equus make for sound arguments, but buyers discounting the rear-drive, premium Korean automobiles for their lack of all-wheel drive – an increasingly popular option on luxury vehicles – are rapidly running out of excuses.

Hyundai has now confirmed that the next-generation of both the Genesis and Equus will be available with all-wheel drive, putting the high-end Hyundais up against Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Infiniti, Acura, Cadillac and other luxury marques that offer full traction on their sedans and coupes.

What would an auto show be without an array of luxury and performance automobiles on display? Each brought out its latest luxury sedans, wagons, crossovers and sport-utility vehicle. Follow the jump to see what they saw.

Hyundai Enters the Limousine Market with Equus VL500

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Hot on the heels of the announcement that it would be bringing its flagship Equus luxury sedan to the North American market comes the launch of the Equus VL500 limousine. The stretched limo measures a foot longer than the luxury automobile on which it is based, and beats the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S500L and Lexus LS460L by some 15 inches, providing rear-seat passengers with that much extra legroom.

Although it hardly ranks among the top premium marques on this side of the ocean, Hyundai has quickly risen to the number four spot among automakers worldwide, and is certainly the largest in its domestic market, where the Equus VL500 is being launched exclusively for the time being. Prices hover around the Korean Won equivalent of $120,000, and three examples have even been outfitted with full bomb-proof armor for the President of South Korea, which will be used at the upcoming G20 summit there next year.

Hyundai Pulls Out the Big Guns by Bringing Flagship Equus to America

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Hyundai may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of luxury sedans. In fact, it was once a bit of a punch line. But no more. After the debut of the Genesis sedan and coupe, the Korean automaker has established itself as a serious player in the luxury segment, and has got Japan's top premium marques paying attention. Now Hyundai is preparing to step it up a notch by bringing its top-of-the-line Equus luxury sedan to the North American market. After an initial showing at the New York Auto Show in April, the Hyundai Equus is set to make its official Stateside debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this weekend. Lexus, Acura and Infiniti had better take notice, as should anyone in the market for a luxury sedan who's eager to get a good value and willing to forgo the traditional nameplates.
