The Elysian Hotel Creates Emergency Style Kit

Chicago's Elysian Hotel, wants to make sure their guests look good this holiday season. The stylish luxury hotel's Elysian Style Program offers more than just a toothbrush or spare hairbrush for those who might have forgotten a few things. Fashion stylist Eric Himel worked with the Elysian to create the Emergency Style Kit for men and women as well as private fashion consultations both before and during guests' stays.

The curated Elysian Emergency Style Kit is available for both men and women. Items in the women's Emergency Style Kit range from $15-$1,000 and the men's from $170 to $595. The women's kit offers items such as a Donna Karan Black Infiniti Convertible jersey dress; Jimmy Choo Black Gilbert Kid Leather Pumps; MAC Viva Glam lipstick; Wolford Power Shape tights and a red Lanvin Ouloulette clutch. The men's kit offers dressed-up style option like an Ermenegildo Zegna white French Cuff dress shirt; Hermés silk tie; David Yurman Armory cuff links; Gucci moccasins and Byredo "Fantastic Man" cologne.

The Elysian Style Program is available to those who book an Executive Suite or higher and includes access to Himel and his exclusive Shopping Hot List, outlining the seasons' hottest items and where to find them in the neighboring shopping district. Guests can contact Himel for a complimentary pre-stay consultation in which he can provide professional fashion insight and shopping recommendations. A styling session can also be booked at $150/hour.

This move is just the latest in a boutique hotel trend that has fashion moving from stores in the lobby into an integrated part of the hotel itself. The Hudson Hotel has a deluxe vending machine with stylish apparel and other options; the Standard hotels also sell apparel via vending machine. The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles recently announced a partnership with personal stylist and fashion consultant, Aly Scott of StyleChic.

Elysian Hotel Hosts Mandy Ingber Yoga Weekend

Need a little fitness inspiration this fall? The Elysian Hotel in Chicago is bringing in celebrity yoga instructor Mandy Ingber to host a three-day/two-night Yoga Retreat Weekend, September 10 – 12, 2010. Ingber will teach the same wellness principles and yoga poses that have made her Hollywood classes popular with celebrity yoga bodies like Jennifer Aniston, Brooke Shields and Helen Hunt.

Ingber will share her motivational approach with aspiring and accomplished yoga practitioners over a weekend that includes three yoga sessions, smoothie breaks and an afternoon spa treatment. Rates starting at $1,445 and include accommodations for two nights, an in-room welcome amenity, keepsake Lululemon yoga mat, and lunch and question and answer session with Ingber. "Having the body you want begins with loving the body you have," says Ingber of her overall attitude of acceptance.

The hotel has a 14,000-square-foot spa and health club that also has a Pilates and Gyrotonic studio (one of only two in the city) and a full range of cardiovascular and weight training equipment. The spa also features a saline lap pool, 12 treatment rooms, an outdoor terrace and men's and women's relaxation areas with warm water baths, saunas and steam rooms.

Elysian Hotel's Marc Jacobs Package

In 2008 my colleague Jared Paul Stern mentioned that Marc Jacobs would be opening his only Chicago boutique at the Elysian Hotel. Now the hotel has created a special package, the "Bed, Breakfast and Marc Jacobs" package for anyone wanting to make a pilgrimage to the boutique. The package is available through Labor Day and includes accommodations in an Elysian guestroom or suite, complimentary breakfast in bed, a Marc Jacob beach tote and a limited edition Marc Jacobs towel. Rates start at $415.

Chicago Hotel Offers No-Tip Luxury

Part of the hidden expense of staying at a luxury hotels is tipping but one hotel, the Elysian in Chicago has done away with it. USA Today's Hotel Check-In column reports that the hotel has adopted a no-tipping-necessary policy. David Pisor, the developer behind the 188 room hotel says that he finds thinking about tipping detracts from the luxury experience. The article points out that Pisor is also the nephew of Alice Waters whose Chez Panisse has had a service charge in lieu of tipping for years.

Customers can tip if they want to but are told when they book the room and check in that tipping is not necessary. The Elysian isn't the first hotel to have this property. Some resorts have adopted the policy to help contribute to the total relaxation of the customer. Other city hotels like the Seaport Hotel in Boston also have done away with tipping.

The Elysian is an ultra-luxury hotel where rooms cost around $350 per night. The hotel includes large residence-styled guest rooms and suites. The hotel has two restaurants, a bar and a health club and spa. It offers 24-hour room service and a 24-hour doorman and security. A private fleet of luxury automobiles are available for local transportation and airport transfers. The hotel is currently offering a special that provides three nights for the price of two.
