eLuxury Rebrands As Nowness

Last June, when I mentioned the closing of eLuxury, the online retailer owned by LVMH, I mentioned that it would become an editorial site. What I didn't know is that it would lose its name too. The site has been transformed into a magazine called Nowness. Nowness doesn't just focus on fashion, it also covers art, design, music, travel, food and other aspects of culture. The site's mission statement is to showcase daily content from the best creative minds. The site will officially launch soon but as a run up to the launch, Nowness is offering one story each day featuring not just words but also videos, music and photo galleries.

The site will be interactive. Stories already carry love and don't love buttons which allow you to register your opinion on a story. The site will eventually be able to learn your tastes as you engage with the site, providing content that matches your interests. So far there doesn't seem to be any advertising on the site. The Nowness FAQ stresses that while it is part of LVMH the content will be editorially independent.

ELuxury Closing Online Store

Popular luxury fashion website, eLuxury is getting out of the selling business and is closing down retail operations. The company has issued a press release saying that they will launch a new editorial destination later this year. The website sold brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi and others. While it's sad to see eLuxury go, if you want to shop on the site, now is the time. The discounts are deep, the Dolce & Gabbana halter dress shown at right was $3,670 but is now $734. You can shop now through June 26.

eLuxury Now Sells Men's Vintage Clothing

Shopping for vintage men's clothing has gotten a little easier now that eLuxury is in the men's vintage business. They have partnered with La Rosa Vintage Boutique of San Francisco, California to offer one-of-a-kind pieces that range from fashions you hoped you'd never see again like 1970s polyester shirts and leisure jackets to more classic sport coats, trench coats and some funky western shirts. My favorite pieces are the brocade dinner jackets and smoking jackets. You'll pay a bit more than you might if you were rummaging around a thrift store though. The brocade jacket shown above is $400 and they are charging $200 for some of their 1970s polyester shirts which seems rather ridiculous given that even their suitably toothsome model can't quite seem to pull those looks off.

ELuxury Says Farewell To Paper Catalogs

The common wisdom used to be that in order to sell luxury products you need a thick glossy catalog with glamour shots of the merchandise on heavyweight paper. But today with the growing push toward green measures companies are finding that the beautiful catalogs can be a business liability. ELuxury.com is the latest business to ditch the catalog. They have announced they are replacing the 270,000 catalogs they send out each year with more comprehensive style look books online.

Etro Western Floral Pony Satchel

Western is hot, especially when it comes to shoes and handbags. Bags with buckles are still at the top of the fashionista's must-have list, though, so the fusion of the two trends would create the perfect bag. At least, that's what the designers at Etro were telling themselves. They have a penchant for pushing the limits of design, so it is no surprise that they came up with the Western Floral Pony Satchel. The busy bag is soft brown snakeskin leather, glazed red in spots and embossed with flowers, trimmed with a spotted pony pattern. It is adorned with antiqued silver spurs, studs and buckles, accented with yellow leather ribbons and has a purple satin interior. I can't make up my mind as to whether I love it or hate it, but I definitely can't tear my eyes away. Price: $1,450.

We'll be bringing you some temptingly discounted treats over the next few days. eLuxury's sale offers 40% off brands like Marc Jacobs and Fendi. This Fendi evening bag is blue velvet shearling with tiny rhinestones and gold patent leather piping and handles . The golden frame reveals a deep blue satin lining. It originally sold for $1,210 and is on sale for $729.
