French actor Gilles Marini's new restaurant La Vida in Hollywood
(neatly perched on the corner of Sunset and Gower) was the setting for the recent Effen by Design vodka event
. The event brought together a few things that you wouldn't assume would go together but do, like vodka and prosecco and a vodka brand which gets great mileage off cheeky plays on words and design-centered philanthropy. Effen
's latest ads include provocative taglines like "the best nights start with a little Effen" but what is more interesting is the brand's collaboration with designers like Vanessa De Vargas, the designer behind the Turquoise interior design firm.
De Vargas, a blogger, designer and host of hot tag sales, also works with charity Upward Bound, giving homeless people a second chance. She led a group of designers to design rooms for the Upward Bound house
, decorating 18 units in the new family shelter facility. If you want to help this cause check out the a special page of vintage offerings at the Pip and Estella store
, 100% of the proceeds benefit the Upward Bound house.
And as for that vodka and prosecco, try the 6th and Main, a lovely concoction dreamed up by mixologist Nina A. Guinard.
1.5 ounces Effen Black Cherry Vodka
1.5 ounces Prosecco
.75 ounces St. Germain Elderflower liqueur
Pour Effen Black Cherry and St. Germain over ice, shake and then add Prosecco and strain into a champagne glass. Garnish with a fresh strawberry. Simply Effen lovely.
