Fairmont Hotels & Resorts first debuted its Global Explorer Series last year and now for its second year there are three new adventure vacation packages built around exploring the world's oceans. Offered in collaboration with the National Geographic Society to promote responsible and sustainable tourism, guests can explore wondrous underwater worlds along with an expert to make the experience truly unforgettable.
  • Join National Geographic environmental anthropologist and underwater cave expert Dr. Kenny Broad on a snorkeling expedition through the freshwater jungles of the Mayan Cenotes.
  • Snorkel around The Big Island of Hawaii with National Geographic environmental anthropologist Dr. Kenny Broad.
  • Enjoy an unforgettable weekend of diving, exploring and learning at Fairmont Mayakoba with legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle.
Rates start at $399/night and are 'mostly inclusive,' with details varying per location.

Sustainable Travel Auction: Eco-Packages Up for Bid

From now until April 20th, you can bid to win. Sustainable tourism doesn't mean you have to stay somewhere in the bush without any amenities. Luxury can be green too! From Nepal to Morroco, Jackson Hole to Alaska, the offerings are diverse and include unique accommodations and packages. Some even involve volunteering -- vacation with a purpose makes for a great family getaway.

Ulaa, When You Really Need To Get Far Away From it All

If you are looking for a remote eco-hotel adventure, a new resort Ulaa, just might be your place. It is located in the X region of Chile, an area famed for its rivers, mountains and scenic natural beauty especially this time of year when spring is giving way to summer in the Southern hemisphere. There are no real roads around the property and the main for of transportation is buy horse. There are no in-room televisions or telephones (although there is wireless internet in the main lodge). The resort has seven cabins which are rustic but also comfortable. There is also a spa that offers a variety of massages and sweat lodge treatments. Other activities include horseback riding, canoeing, farming in the organic gardens and cooking lessons. Cabins range from $125 to $240 per night during high season. If you need to be surrounded by marble and infinity pools this isn't your place but if you would just like to go where no one can reach you, watch the stars at night, eat simple and wholesome food and reconnect with nature and yourself this could be your new escape.
