Selfridges Offers Gold Egg For Easter

Given the price of gold these days I'm not sure if you are supposed to eat this or tuck it in the bank. Actually you can do both with this one. Selfridges is offering a chocolate egg created by Melt's head chocolatier Chika Watanabe with one troy ounce of gold bullion set into it. Selfridges tells the Telegraph that the coin used on the egg is a particularly rare one that the Royal Mint no longer produces and is worth £900. Each egg is made to order with a choice of single origin chocolates. It is decorated with 18 carat gold leaf and filled with salted caramels. It sells for £1,000.

Easter is such a happy holiday, full of bright whites and pastels and of course all the new life and greenery that comes with the spring season. We covered Vivian Alexander's egg purses awhile back but I think they deserve a revisit -- especially because of this cheerful Easter Egg Purse that catches the whimsical side of the holiday. Diamond Stella Egg

Chocolate, diamonds and it's not even from Tokyo. The £50 000 ($87,025) diamond-encrusted Easter egg (shown being touched up by Christophe Lambert in this AP photo) is being shown off in London at La Maison du Chocolat. The Diamond Stella Egg is over in 100 half-carat diamonds and is around two feet tall. The chocolate egg came from Paris and once in London a chef melted small parts of the egg in order to attach the diamonds. The inside of the egg includes peach and apricot chocolate and pralines.
