Dylan's Candy Bar Opens In The Palm Desert

A little sweet stuff is coming to the desert. Marriott's Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert, California has opened its own Dylan's Candy Bar, a West Coast outpost of the popular sweets emporium created by Dylan Lauren in New York City. Lauren, the daughter of Ralph and Ricky Lauren, is quickly turning a sweet tooth into an empire with stores in East Hampton, New York; Orlando, Florida and Houston, Texas. Last year she because an author with a book, "Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life."

The new shop has the same type of colorful, friendly decor as the original with bright turquoise walls, a candy-coated ceiling, custom candy-themed light fixtures and shelves full of tantalizing treats ranging from gummy bears and jelly beans to the various tempting flavors of Dylan's Candy Bar's exclusive line of chocolate bars. This store also features the Whirly Pop Tree with its branches of lollipops. For Valentine's Day, Dylan's Candy Bar offers the "Bleeding Heart Bar," a premium Belgian milk chocolate bar oozing with sweet red caramel.

Marriott's Shadow Ridge is part of Marriott's Vacation Club and has 497 one- and two-bedroom villas. It is also home to Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club, the first Nick Faldo-designed championship golf course in the U.S., and the Faldo Golf Institute by Marriott. Any calories you burn up on the course can be quickly replaced at Dylan's Candy Bar. Maybe they ought to call it Palm Dessert.

RSVIP: Book Bash For "Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life"

Charlie and his chocolate factory have nothing on new author, candy expert, and sweets purveyor par excellence Dylan Lauren (above, left).

Scarlet balloons hugged the ceiling of Dylan's Candy Bar, her sugary eponymous department store in Manhattan. Lilanne Becker, an adult dressed as a fairy princess with a satin gown, white gloves and tiara, stood beside a table stacked with books and brandished a colorful copy of Dylan Lauren's new coffee-table tome, "Dylan's Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life" (Clarkson Potter). Downstairs, Aundre Seals, a Halloween Dracula with some white face paint skewered Rice Krispie treats and marshmallows shaped like ghosts, drenched them in a triple-tier chocolate fountain, and handed them to salivating onlookers.

For adults, cocktails with lime rock-sugar swizzle sticks and gummy spider garnishes were spiked with VeeV, an açai-based spirit and tonic water. Red licorice decorated yet another cocktail made with raspberry liqueur.

In a basement brimming with vintage candy, including a bathtub filled with gumballs, a line of adoring fans snaked towards a cheery Dylan Lauren, wearing an acid green shirt with candy-tone Rep tie and signing books.

Sure I'm proud," said designer Ralph Lauren, Dylan's famous dad (above, right), wearing a blue-and-gold bomber jacket. "I'm so happy for her. She created something she loves and is happy to share it with many people who love candy!"

We headed over to Dylan's Candy Bar to check out what's new and what's hot for Valentine's Day and found a ton of amazing goodies - edible and otherwise!

There's more at Dylan's Candy Bar (the upscale candy store and lifestyle brand created by Dylan Lauren, a.k.a. Ralph Lauren's daughter) than just sweeties for your Valentine's Day sweetie. We found a great line of canvas bags, the most adorable little raincoat, scented reeds, jewelry, and a gym bag we very nearly stole (at right - that's me in my "going to the gym" pose. I don't know why it's like that.). We liked the bright yellow towel in there, too!

Dylan's Candy Bar "Re-Treat" Bath and Body Line, From Dylan Lauren

Dylan Lauren, daughter of Ralph and proprietor of the eponymous Dylan's Candy Bar in NYC, has launched a bath and body products line inspired by the store's most popular items and flavors. Available exclusively at Sephora, as well on the store's website, Re-Treat features the delectable-sounding (but inedible!) Birthday Cake Batter Collection, Strawberry Licorice Collection, Chocolate Cupcake Collection, and Coconut Bon Bon Collection. Noted on Sephora to be "a decadent bath collection formulated with natural, top-of-the-line ingredients and fragranced with the scrumptious notes found at the Dylan's Candy Bar brick-and-mortar stores," the line includes bath and shower gel, body lotions and creams, scrubs and exfoliants, and lip balms and exfoliants. Prices are reasonable -- from $8 - $30.
