Eli Broad To Bring Art Museum To Downtown Los Angeles

Billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad has chosen his spot. Broad and his wife Edythe have decided that the Broad Art Foundation will be settling in on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. A committee of state and local officials voted that he could lease county-owned land to build a 35,000-square-foot structure to house pieces from the collection of 2,000 pieces.

The terms of the deal are that the foundation will pay $7.7 million for a 99-year lease for the 2.5 acre piece of land. This land was once earmarked for a $3 billion complex of condos, retail stores and hotels. That project never got off the ground, and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Disney Hall were left at one end of a street that was expected to become one of the city's most vibrant areas.

Broad's museum could cost $100 million to construct and per the terms of the deal also must contribute $200 million toward its operation. The AP reports that Diller, Scofidio & Renfro has been named as the architect for the project. The design will be unveiled in October. Construction should be finished by the end of 2012.

Skyline Jazz Series Offers Music With A View In Los Angeles

Sunset, jazz and a view of Los Angeles, what could be better? The Skyline Jazz Series, launches on Tuesday April 20th and will continue every Tuesday thereafter at the Elevate Lounge, 21 floors up at 811 Wilshire Blvd. in downtown L.A. from 7- 10 p.m. The event will feature cocktails, sushi and robata appetizers, and three hours of live modern jazz led by the Ryan Roberts group. The Ryan Roberts group will welcome different guest players and vocalists each week. Entry is free and tables are available for a small minimum. Takami Sushi is located next door if the popcorn shrimp, robata trio, and tuna tataki leave you in the mood for something more.

The South Park area of Los Angeles has been booming lately. The area is the site of the Los Angeles Convention Center, the Staples Center and the "L.A. Live" project. This summer the big news was that a major grocery store returned to the area, signaling the growing residential contingent. EVO is a high-rise residence building in the neighborhood and is the only LEED certified high rise residence in L.A. The property includes a pool and sun terrace, fitness studio and rooftop entertainment lounge with an outdoor fireplace. Many units have beautiful horizon and city views. The last of Evo's sale-priced residences went on sale earlier this month starting in the mid $300,000s. Generally the condominiums are priced from the low-$400,000s to $3.7 million and range from 730 to over 3,500 square feet.
