New Dolce & Gabbana Designs for A.C. Milan

Filed under: Apparel, Sports, Men's Style

Design duo Dolce & Gabbana has announced its latest designs for Italian football (soccer) team A.C. Milan for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Dolce & Gabbana designed the team's official uniforms as well as the formal uniforms for the entire A.C. Milan Red and Black Club, as modeled by star players Gennaro Ivan Gattuso and Pato above. The team is traveling to the U.S. this month to compete against the Chelsea FC, Inter Milan, and Club America teams in matches taking place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, and Gillette Stadium in Boston. "We are very happy to be able to once again link the name Dolce & Gabbana with A.C. Milan," state Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, "a team whose international prestige perfectly embodies our style and Italian excellence across the world." Milan have won a record 18 officially recognized international titles.

D&G Men's Swimwear

When it comes to swimwear from D&G, don't expect long lengths and Hawaiian flowers. If anything their line leans toward the shorter end of things. Black sleek material adorned with its signature label their choices span the range from brief (and I mean really brief) to mid-thigh trunks. A shy man should probably opt for Tommy Bahama or Theory if they hope bright colors and longer styles will improve their look -- Dolce and Gabbana is for the bold, the fit and the confident. Pick through the options in the gallery below to find your D&G swimwear style -- or if you're not of the male persuasion, just enjoy the gallery. (These are the D&G Square-Cut Trunks for $315)

Dolce & Gabbana Eel Pumps

I love to browse through fashion magazines to find outfits for work that are more stylish and exciting than the average pair of khakis and a button down shirt. But sometimes the featured outfits can seem too extravagant when it's filled with such eye popping and ultra stylish items - especially if your work environment is a far cry from any of the characters on Lipstick Jungle. But by taking one bold item, it can become the accent piece needed to uplift an all to common and lackluster outfit. Take for example these gorgeous painted eel skin pumps by Dolce & Gabbana. I love the strong touches of black throughout because it only compliments the painted eel skin. Pair them with virtually any blouse and wide leg black pants so the square toe just barely peeks out from underneath showing off its delicious caramel colored leather. A bold shoe that has long lasting appeal. Heel measurement: 4 1/2". Price: $550

Dolce & Gabbana's Diamonds & Pearls

Filed under: Apparel, Jewelry, Charity, Books

Italian fashion duo Dolce & Gabbana are publishing a gorgeous new coffee table book called Diamonds & Pearls this month, available exclusively in a handful of their U.S. boutiques. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana personally selected clothing and accessories featuring jewelry of all kinds - gems, multicolored stones, sequins, pearls, gold leaves and diamonds - photographed on a variety of "life-like, yet otherworldly mannequins." The book, which retails for $270, contains texts written by university professors analyzing the psychology, history and sociology behind the creation of Diamonds & Pearls. Proceeds from the book benefit children's charity Butterfly Onlus Foundation.

'White Christmas' Inspired Bags, Handbag of the Day

white handbag
'Tis the season for blankets of snow and frosted branches, ski trips and furry boots, and new handbags to match the winter white theme. Whether you are shopping at Saks, Bergdorfs, Nordstroms, Neimans or Barneys there are clean, colorless clutches, totes and hobos to suit the season. Here are a few of my favorites inspired by the holiday tune, 'White Christmas' that are chic, sophisticated and frosty including the Nablak Vernice Tote from Prada pictured above.

Dolce & Gabbana One-of-A-Kind Men's Crocodile Bags

Beginning this month, Italian design duo Dolce & Gabbana are debuting an incredibly luxurious collection of one-off crocodile bags for men as part of their Spring / Summer 2009 offerings. The collection is limited to 20 unique pieces worldwide, each costing about $50,000. The One-of-A-Kind collection "blends together the artisan leather tradition of Tuscany with Dolce & Gabbana's innovative use of precious materials," the company notes. Each piece is crafted out of "the finest mix of luxurious multi-colored crocodile skin in a unique and not-reproducible combination meant for those men who are looking for the ultimate object of desire." Inside each bag is an embroidered label reading "Limited Edition - Number 1 of 1." Last summer my colleague Rigel Celeste wrote about the women's version.

Micol Metallic Envelope Clutch, Handbag of the Day

I like the idea of an envelope clutch, and at first this one appealed to me, but the more I look at it the uglier I think it is. It's the Micol Metallic Envelope Clutch by D&G and it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like -- a large leather envelope. It zips closed instead of folds over like a typical envelope, and from the pictures it looks like that ends up being a a little awkward. It has a leather pull with an attached silver padlock on the front, a contrast panel and dangling key bell on the back, and (perhaps the best part for me) the interior is lined in a pretty shade of pink silk. $695

D&G Designer Baby Bottles

I don't have babies of my own yet but I don't let that hamper my love of shopping for cute little outfits, miniature shoes, and everything else they sell in the infants department. I love going to baby showers and the next time I get an invite I think I already know what I want to shop for: one of these useful and stylish designer feeding bottles with matching cases by Dolce & Gabbana. They're not the usual cutesy colors and patterns, which is a breath of fresh air, and instead feature animal prints and simple logo-based patterns. Definitely a nice way to treat both mom and baby to some designer luxury. $70-$80

Luxury Living by the Sea

A really great, oversized design book with beautifully-reproduced images can sometimes actually transport you to another place. Such is the case with a new volume titled New Seaside Interiors, edited by Angelika Taschen, which is anything but a mishmash of coastal clichés. Forget what you think you know about nautical décor; with examples of brilliant seaside design on all five continents, from Iceland to Chile, the architecture in this book harmonizes with the ocean in ways that go far beyond sprinkling a few seashells around the guest bath. From fashion designer Pierre Cardin's Bond villain-style floating house in St. Tropez to Dolce & Gabbana's eye-popping seaside villas in Italy, this is the né plus ultra of seaside style. See the gallery for more.

Dolce & Gabbana's One-of-a-Kind Bags

Carrying one of the new Dolce & Gabbana 'One-of-a-Kind' bags means you were personally invited to one of a select few events at a D&G boutique, as that's the only way to get one. The collection includes 17 bags made of crocodile skin, pony skin, and suede in various combinations, and the warm, intense color schemes are meant to evoke feelings of the English countryside. Sizes vary from small to big and each bag in the collection is designed for women who want a favorite bag that they carry with them every day to every occasion.

Styledrops -- Italian Fashion, With Passion

Filed under: Apparel, Handbags, Shoes, Children, Men's Style

While researching something for Luxist, I came across Styledrops, a fashion site for men, women and children that sells upscale Italian designer goods. For women, select from shoes, handbags, clothing and accessories. Same for men, minus the handbags. Kids get shoes and clothing. The site boasts "the best price you have ever seen on the Internet!"

A sampling of brands: Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Tod's, Hogan, Dior, Fratelli Rossetti, Ferragamo, Cesare Paciotti, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Frankie Morello. Check here for the whole list for women, men and kids. Choose by type of item, designer or price.

I haven't purchased from the site so I can't vouch for service or quality, but the site itself is easy to navigate and has some very high-end items.

Dolce & Gabbana Miss Pocket Patchwork Snakeskin Bag, Handbag of the Day

Bright and cheerful, the Miss Pocket Patchwork Snakeskin North/South Bag by Dolce & Gabbana will go with almost any outfit (probably best on solid colors though) and in my opinion fits in during any season. Made in Italy of genuine snakeskin with suede trim, it has silver hardware, a fine textile lining, and a suede patch embossed with "Miss Pocket" on the inside. It also has short leather handles and a longer shoulder strap (both detachable), plus an engraved nameplate that dangles on the outside of the bag. $3,995

In the Bedroom with Dolce & Gabbana

The world's top fashionistas spend their lives designing things for other people, but they often reserve their true talents for themselves. A glimpse into their personal lives - and not in the tabloid sense - often reveals more about their real sensibilities and style than their runway creations, which are often masked by more commercial concerns.

Marie Bariller's gorgeous new book, Dressing the Home: The Private Spaces of Top Fashion Designers affords a rare glimpse at the interior lives (so to speak) of some of the biggest names in fashion. Included are two houses owned by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who wrote the introduction to the book, and who describe their aesthetic as "luxury that combines romanticism with irony, always executed with care and professionalism."

We also get to see where style stars like Christian Louboutin, Gilles Mendel, Jacopo Etro, Catherine Malandrino, Patrick Cox, Betsey Johnson, and Diane von Furstenberg, among others, hang their hats. As you might expect, they're pretty talented at dressing their homes as well.

D&G Satin Evening Bag, Handbag of the Day

This is an evening bag that should make any woman feel elegant, feminine, and timeless. The D&G Satin Evening Bag has a slight 'old-fashioned' vibe, in a good way, and would be the perfect accessory for a favorite little black dress. Made of fine satin inside and out, plus with polished gold hardware and metal grained leather trim it has the look of shimmering elegance without trying too hard by adding jewels or other bling. The bag folds up to open at the top via a kiss-lock closure and to reveal a D&G logo on the front, just above the pleats. 9 1/2" x 5 1/2" (when folded) x 1/2", $455.

D & G Round-Toe Flats

Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian based fashion house famous for its trend setting designs. These unique and playful D&G flats caught my attention, they remind me of the jelly sandals I had in the 80s! Available in eye catching shades, bright pink, lime green, turquoise, or violet and made of satin, it's hard to pick a favorite. Available for $485 on the Neiman Marcus website where any shoe purchase over $200 entitles you to a butterfly shoe bag.
