RSVIP: Notes from the Tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week--Part I

There are tents within tents during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, curtained-off rooms backstage and in secret hallways, where models whip their clothes off and change into their first look; where they have their hair snipped and sprayed and teased; where Gwen Stefani's two little boys, Kingston and Zuma, were able to play in private; and, of course, the Diane von Furstenberg-designed "Star Room," where Mercedes-Benz served miniature cupcakes, fresh sushi, and fine cheese to swells.

The sexiest scene RSVIP noted was backstage at the Tommy Hilfiger show on Sunday, right, where the well-known new youth models, Arizona and Jordan, among many others, had their hair wetted as jugs of water were poured over their heads into a large plastic trash can backstage before they began drying their own tresses.

Diane Von Furstenberg's Home Collection Launches At Bloomingdale's

Diane Von Furstenberg's collection of bedding, tableware and more has popped up at Bloomindale's. The Bloomingdale's website is hosting a sweepstakes with a grand prize of a DVF bedding ensemble, dinnerware place setting, wrap dress, shoes, handbag and sunglasses. The prize package has a $5,000 value. Many of the designs take their inspiration from the exuberant prints used in Von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dresses. Our sister blog, ShelterPop checked out the exhibit first hand and chose their favorites.

Scenes from NY Fashion Week: DVF and DKNY (video)

Diane von Furstenberg and Donna Karan are the grand dames of New York Fashion Week. As befitting her legendary status, Diane von Furstenberg's line was titled "Goddess" and was inspired by Isadora Duncan. The line was also influenced by the colors of Greece, bright indigo, mustard yellow and plenty of prints. At a show attended by Sarah Jessica Parker and Anderson Cooper among others, von Furstenberg and her new creative director Yvan Mispelaere showcased casual luxe combining flowing halter tops paired with shorts, draped dresses with deep cleavage and of course, colorful new takes on von Furstenberg's iconic wrap dresses.

Fashion's Night Out is coming right up -- it's this Friday, September 10. After its overwhelming success last year, this worldwide fashion fete is even bigger and brighter, and taking place in over 100 cities in America alone. Claridge's Unveils First Diane von Furstenburg - Designed Suite

Back in March we reported that famed fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg had signed on for her first interior design project, a series of rooms and suites for Claridge's, the ultra-luxe Art Deco hotel in London's Mayfair. Now the hotel has unveiled the first of the DVF-designed spaces, the legendary Piano Suite (above). The designer created custom pieces including a dressing table, travelling trunk, desk and cocktail bar, inspired by her glamorous travels and the mobility of campaign furniture, complementing the architectural details and elegant marble fireplace. "Claridge's is the most glamorous hotel in the world," says von Furstenberg. "Hotels like this don't exist anymore and the legacy must be respected! It is very important to keep the original architecture and the formality of the layout of the rooms in order to preserve the old style of grand hotel life that I love so much. It has been a true privilege to design new furniture, fabrics and rugs to keep it relevant for today's needs and taste."

The Diane von Furstenberg Piper Laced Leather Bag is an inventive and graceful piece -- a stellar example of the house of DVF.

While the first thing we noticed about this bag was, of course, the elegantly displayed double strap, the real star of this bag is the hammered silvertone buckle which draws attention to the sensuous shape of the bag. Kenneth Cole, Diane von Furstenberg and Calvin Klein Create Special Minis for Life Ball 2010

Every year the rich and famous of the fashion world gather in Vienna for the Life Ball. The charity event is the largest HIV/AIDS fundraiser of the year, and has been supported for the past ten years running by Mini. Over the course of their decade of collaboration, the BMW subsidiary has enlisted the talents of such noted designers as Diesel, Versace and Agent Provocateur, and the unique hatchbacks they've created have raised half a million euros for the cause.

This year, however, they've brought in three big name designers – Kenneth Cole, Diane von Furstenberg and Calvin Klein creative director Francisco Costa – to customize special Minis for the event. Each is featured in the image gallery below and will be auctioned off at the gala in Vienna on July 17 to kick off the 18th International AIDS Conference.
