Robbins Brothers Introduces 98-Facet Diamond

Engagement ring specialists, Robbins Brothers has come out with a new diamond cut. The standard 57 or 58-facet brilliant cut diamond is increasingly being edged out by stones with more and more facets. Over centuries, the natural octahedral rough diamond has gradually been modified and faceted to get the most light play out of the stone. In the last few years, breakthroughs in diamond cutting have lead to the ability to place more and more facets on stones. The new round brilliant Echo Diamond, contains 98 facets that are hand-cut and arranged for maximum brilliance. The facet placement allows more light movement and more sparkle, which delivers a brighter diamond. In celebration of the new diamond launch, Robbins Brothers offers customers a free diamond wedding band ($395 value) for every Echo Diamond that is purchased (minimum 1/2 carat) before October 24. The Robbins Brothers Echo Diamond also comes with a lifetime warranty, conflict-free promise, certification including an Imagem Light Return Report of "Very Good" or "Excellent," and a laser inscription with the Echo logo and IGI certificate.

The Las Vegas Diamond Cut, Sin City As Muse

A master diamond cutter at work in freezing Saskatchewan is behind one of the newest diamond cuts. The Las Vegas diamond was created by Mike Botha and only Botha and two other apprentices churn out the stones which bear 111 facets. An average brilliant cut stone has 57 facets. I've seen more facets than the Las Vegas cut, a few years ago a stone, the Brilliant Lady 21 was said to have an astounding 221 facets. But according to an interview with Botha in the Vancouver Sun he feels that his cut has optimal brilliance and is "in this sweet spot for a diamond that looks beautiful." Another facet and the stone could lose sparkle and definition. The stones are graded by AGS labs.

The design is being sold by Kimberlight Brands and its co-owners, Laura Serena and Heather Kirk, gave the cut its name in honor of the bright lights of Las Vegas. The cut was officially launched in June and there have already been a few orders. It will be rolled out this fall and is only for stones one carat or larger. The stones cost approximately 20 to 30 percent more than a regular cut because of the difficulty and expertise required to make the cuts.

Louis Vuitton Patented Diamonds

Louis Vuitton patented rounded and pointed flower diamondsLouis Vuitton has just launched two patented diamond cuts.

These tough economic times give us few excuses to splurge on items that will be out of fashion in a couple of months. Louis Vuitton diamonds are the antidote to this problem.

You probably recognized the maker of these diamonds before even reading the heading. That's the kind of brand recognition that guarantees the longevity of Louis Vuitton.

These classic cuts, reminiscent of Louis Vuitton's signature prints, are sure to be in style forever. Size may vary, but these are the kind of diamonds you pass down to your grandchildren. They are not so much a splurge as a sensible diamond investment.

The rounded and pointed flower cuts you see at right may not be right for an engagement ring (who would brand love like that?), but for earrings and other decorative jewelry, these cuts are sure to be a hit.

The Vuitton diamonds have between 61 and 77 facets and have been set into a bracelet, a pair of earrings, two brooches, a ring and a necklace-the latter consisting of 1,001 tiny brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 15 carats, coexisting with 65 round flower diamonds (49 carats) and 79 pointed ones (44 carats), for a combined bling bang of 108 carats that retails for about $4 million.

I'd most like a pair of studs just like these. Mismatched, but recognizably a pair.
