The I-Con Desk

This I-Con desk takes the ideas of clean lines and minimalistic approach to the far ends of the spectrum. Designed by Michiel van der Kley, the top is made of white Corian, the drawers black-stained walnut veneer, and it stands on chromed steel legs. And if the you're like me and concerned about having enough storage (as it would probably lose all it's crisp modern appeal if you piled it high with papers) a free-standing drawer unit is also available separately.

The Perfect Summer Desk Accessory: The Propello Desk/Table Fan

The hot days of summer are fast approaching, which means those days where the air in the office is stuffy and sticky and you can't seem to find relief no matter how high you crank the AC are on the way also. But maybe the Propello desk/table fan will help you stay productive on those miserable days? Available in two neutral colors, this light blue and a darker gray, the fan blades are made of soft natural rubber (so they can't hurt you) and it's all but completely silent with the finest "johnson electric" ball-bearing motor inside making things go 'round. Eames Mesh Managment Chair

Style and functionality come together easily in the Eames Managment Chair. Designed in 1958, when the word "ergonomic" was young and rarely used outside of research papers, its lightweight and body-hugging form was ahead of its time. The thin mesh backing is self-contouring and flexible, for "even weight distribution and long-term comfort." The mesh-backed chair is available in three colors, but the design is also available with other materials and in other colors at different price points. Price (for mesh): $1,188.

Hedi Slimane Designs Furniture

Photographer turned furniture designer Hedi Slimane's newest endeavor into the world of office furniture is a structured and geographical one. Using ebonized stainless steel, his creations include desks, chairs, and shelves that use a pattern of angles, squares, and thin lines to create a modern minimalist appearance. Although sleek and beautiful to look at, and sure to make a statement as part of a decorating scheme, I can't say they look comfortable at all to actually sit on or use. But then, that's obviously not the point.

iGo Desk

Most people try to coordinate their furniture, then try to figure out the best way to incorporate accessories into the picture. The size and usability of a TV or computer might be taken into account beforehand, but few would start with a computer and work out. If you happen to be in this minority and own a Mac, the iGo desk is perfect for you. It is designed not only to integrate with the Mac, but to complement its appearance. It is completely ergonomic and comes in both sitting and standing models. Price: $333-$500.

James Desk

If your desk is anything like mine it is often a sea of paper. The James desk from Modernlink is the antidote to that. It has slots for vertical files built into the top and a large (24 x 36) drawer in the center. The desk is made of bamboo which is farm harvested and sustainable. It is available in either a "Baked" or "Raw" finish. Raw is the color of naked bamboo while the Baked version a toasty color created by subjecting the raw bamboo to high temperatures. laptop@home

laptop@home is a line of soft laptop accessories designed by Mike and Maaike that are intended to make using your laptop a bit more comfortable, especially if you prefer to actually work with it on your lap than set up at a desh. The PocketTop ($50) is a mobile workstation/laptop bag, with pockets for accessories. The CushTop ($35) is a lap desk that keeps the heat from the laptop from building up on your legs, as well as giving you a more comfortable angle for typing. Cobra Table Lamp

It was tempting to make some sort of last "snakes on a..." reference for this unusual lamp, but the Cobra Lamp is only snakelike in appearance, not involving any actual snakes. It was designed by Elip Martinelli in 1968 and features a swiveling joint that allows the lamp to extend from a Pac Man-like shape into that of a striking cobra, hence the name. The table lamp is UL approved and a good deal more visually interesting than the average desk lamp. Price: $890 (orig. $1,250)

Iomoi Paperweights

Paperweights are, unless you work in a wind-tunnel, essentially useless objects in terms of functionality. This is all the more reason that their selection should be based entirely on appearance; their real function is as a sort of desktop art object. The customizable paperweights from iomoi stationery provide you with a huge array of designs to choose from and can be personalized with initials or a few select words. And how can you resist a paperweight with a cute cupcake on it? Price: $65 for round weights, $40 for oval.

Esque Glass Revolver

Paperweights are interesting pieces of desktop art, which is why we love them. We all know that there are not often high-speed winds sweeping through our offices. This Esque Revolver is an exceptional example of paperweight art. It is hand-blown glass that is shaped into a life-size revolver. Though each piece varies slightly, they are strikingly realistic, not to mention beautiful. The glass is recycled, and the revolver can be blown in amber or metallic blue. All pieces are custom made to order. Price: $315.
