Judson Beaumont Furniture

An article in Canada's Globe and Mail led me to wacky Vancouver furniture designer Judson Beaumont. His company may be called Straight Line Designs but his designs are anything but dull, the dressers, cabinets and cases turn simple wood furniture into something delightfully silly. Beaumont tells the Globe and Mail he was inspired by the 1988 movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the pieces have a gleeful quality that appeals to children and the young at heart. His pieces aren't cheap, they start at $1,500 but at least you won't go into your neighbor's house and find they have the exact same furnishings you do. The cabinet here is a new design known simply as Oops.

Paris Hilton's New Gig, Jewelry Model

Like Kate Moss before her, a little infamy hasn't hurt Paris Hilton's endorsement career. E Online reports that Paris is the face of the new Bliss collection by Italian jeweler Damiani. Paris was recently photographed for the launch of the three-year print campaign by photographer Ellen von Unwerth. The Bliss line is the less pricey and more youthful line from the jeweler. Materials used in the pieces include gold, stainless steel, wood and diamonds and prices will range from $60 to $3,000. The higher-end line has featured Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow as models. Pitt designed his and Jennifer Aniston's wedding rings with Damiani and later sued them when the company sold the designs to the public. Paris Hilton's Bliss ads will run in magazines overseas for a year before invading the U.S.

Vogue UK recently had a piece on jewelry designer Hannah Martin. Martin, who started off wanting to be a sculptor, was attracted by the lure of jewelry. The young designer already has a devoted following that includes Vivienne Westwood, Christopher Bailey and shoe designer Georgina Goodman and she has been asked to consult for Givenchy and Cartier. Her designs, which include diamond safety pins, pearls and rings with gemstone studs. Her latest collection is called Forgotten Treasure Of The Infamous Aguila Dorada and includes this shackle bangle which is made of 18K gold with brilliant cut orange sapphires. The collection is designed for men but the line is also very attractive to women. The bracelet sells for £6,440 and can also be ordered as a pair with a chain to connect them.

2120, A Store For Palm Beach Modern

Modern design seems to have a natural home in Florida, sunnier climates seem to be a better setting for clean lines and spare style. 2120, a modern design store in West Palm Beach is a haven for lighting and furnishings that are contemporary, witty and highly individual. Their website reveals many design finds including plenty of Philippe Starck, a splash of Eames and the sleek and simple pieces of Jasper Morrison. I am enthralled with this lucite armchair which sells for $3,750.

James Kaya Designs

Impressions Magazine has a piece on the beautiful work of James Kaya. Kaya, who is based in Boston, describes his style as architectural and his work is influenced by his homeland, Armenia. Kaya has been in business for two decades but last year won the New Designer of the Year at the Mort Abelson Award and his business has been expanding rapidly. Kaya and his team of jewelers do everything by hand, from sketch to mold to creation. His website features not only his jewelry, which is striking, if a bit sharp-edged at times, but also sketches of the pieces. I couldn't pick just one to highlight so check out more of Kaya's designs after the jump.
