The Desert House, Estate of the Day

I first heard that The Desert House, the sleek and modern prototype for the deluxe prefabs created by starchitecture firm Marmol Radziner in Desert Hot Springs, California was for sale last February when it was listed at $1.85 million. I thought it would go pretty quickly. The home, which was built in 2005, is Marmol-Radziner's showcase of just how beautiful industrially fabricated residential architecture can be. It has recycled steel framing, highly energy-efficient glass, and solar-assisted power. The nearly 7.5 acre site includes the main house, guest house and studio as well as nearly 2,400 square feet of outdoor decks and a pool with dazzling views of Mount San Jacinto and San Gorgonio. Even the prettiest things aren't selling well in the Palm Springs area lately, this home has been reduced to $1.2 million.
