Build-Your-Own Bikini

We've known for some time that you can create your own polo shirts, ties and hats at Ralph Lauren's website. By selecting the color combinations for the main piece and the accenting polo pony, you can end up with someting unique that flatters your coloring and suits your style. This summer, the designer has added to the idea with create-your-own bikini and sarong options for women. The basic bikini is made out of stretch mesh pique, Polo's signature suit material. It has a low-cut halter top and a low-rise bikini-style bottom that pair to creat a sexy silhouette. The top and bottom pieces can be the same or different colors and are $42 each. The sarong is short, with a side tie, and is $50. The only feature that would improve the process is if you could upload your own photo to the website and see how it looks on before you buy it.

Oney Custom Handbags, Handbag of the Day

At the Oney Designs website, you can become your own designer at a price that's more affordable than the very chic Freddy&Ma bags that we featured a few weeks ago. The company was founded by a mother and daughter team looking for a way to combine their passions for sewing and style. They offer 15 different styles of bags and more than 50 different colors. You can order up to 5 complimentary swatches to get a feel for the fabrics they offer if you can't decide online. Other options that you can choose include the colors of any exterior pockets, the strap/handle and whether you wish to include an additional, zippered interior pocket. Prices start at $48 for a clutch and go up from there. The Sheffield bag, pictured, starts at $74.

One other interesting option that the company offers is the opportunity to host a handbag design party, if you live in the Chicago area.

Freddy&Ma Custom Handbags

Designer handbags can get boring after a while, especially when you get an "it" bag, only to discover that everone and their grandmother has a knockoff of it in three weeks time. The solution? How about a custom-made handbag that you can design yourself? Freddy&ma offers custom handbags that you can design through their website. There are six basic bag styles to choose from, ranging in size from a clutch to a tote. Once you have selected the bag of your choice and chosen black, white or brown leather for the trim, you can choose from a seemlingly endless number of patterns, which can be sorted into categories, like "most popular" or "seasonal: spring." Once you have added accents and chosen nickel or gold hardware, the bag is ready to go. Prices vary by style.

Forbes' Most Expensive Cowboy Boots

Cowboy boots are great footware. They are comfortable, easy to wear and can be flashy or understated in style. As Forbes magazine points out, they also make noise when you walk in them, which is a nice bonus. Because cowboy boots are typically made of leather - whether suede, alligator or ostrich - a pair will last for a long time, making them worth a sizable investment. The question that the Forbes list of the most expensive cowboy boots attempts to answer is just how sizable that investment can get.

The most expensive boots are never going to be sitting on a shelf at a store or in the back room of a fashion designer. They are going to be custom measured and made, with materials and patterns hand-selected by the boot wearer, at the hands of someone who has been in the business for a lifetime. In some cases, the boot making business will stretch back over multiple generations in one family. The most expensive pair, according to the magazine, was a Tres Outlaws pair, sold for $75,000 - though most of the companies below start their custom lines at below the $1,000 mark.

The Forbes list included Custom Boots by Michael AnthonySorrel Custom BootsWheeler Boots, Little's Boots, Tex Robin Boots, Rocket Buster, Tres OutlawsStallion Boot and Belt Company, Paul Bond Boots, T.O. Stanley Boots. The boots can take more than a year to complete, since makers will track down the perfect materials for every pair. The Wheeler's custom Super Bowl boots, pictured, cost $17,000.

Wine Storage Tips

LifeTips has a great section dedicated to the storage of wine. Pretty much every topic is touched upon from building your own wine rack to wine cellar cooling tips. Some quick and important storing tips to keep in mind: keep bottles on their sides, store where there is little temperature fluctuation, high humidity is important for long term storage, and pay attention to the age worthiness of your wine before they go past their prime. Keep in mind wine cellars are not just meant to only be pleasing to the eye, but they must be just as functional as they are attractive. The need for a vapor barrier is commonly ignored when your designer doesn’t have the necessary knowledge of wine.
