Ace Of Cakes To Take Part In Palm Desert Food Festival

The Ace of Cakes is headed to the Palm Desert. Duff Goldman, the star of the Food Network's Ace of Cakes, is just one of the chefs taking part in the second annual Food & Wine Festival Palm Desert which runs March 25-27, 2011. The food festival will also feature four James Beard Award winners: Paul Bertolli, Bradley Ogden, Jimmy Schmidt and Roy Yamaguchi. The event is a gathering of epicureans and wine aficionados that takes place under the Big White Tent, which hosts Fashion Week El Paseo (March 20-28, 2011), produced by Palm Springs Life.

During the festival dates March 25-27, two Viking Range Corporation stages will host celebrity chefs giving demonstrations. This year there will also be a winemaker and sommelier stage. The event will feature gourmet food from more than 50 fine dining restaurants, caterers, and food suppliers and more than 100 varietals of premium wines and champagnes from California, Europe and South America. Tickets start at $65.

Cochon 555: A Delicious Celebration of Heritage Pig Breeds

Bacon is just the start when it comes to the world of pork. After Cochon 555: 5 Chefs, 5 Pigs, 5 Winemakers you might never look at the pig the same way again. The culinary competition and tasting event takes place on January 23, 2011 at 5 pm at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Five local chefs will prepare a menu created from heritage breed pigs, nose to tail, for an audience of pork-loving epicureans and local judges.

Pork dishes will be paired with wines from five different small wineries, including Scholium Project, Alysian Winery, Elk Cove Vineyards, Copain Wine Cellars and Failla Wines. Winning chefs will compete against other regional winners at the finale Grand Cochon at the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen, June 19, 2011. The 2011 NYC competing chefs include Brad Farmerie of PUBLIC and Double Crown, Peter Hoffman of Savoy, George Mendes of Aldea, Sean Rembold of Marlow & Sons and Bill Telepan of Telepan Restaurant. Tickets start at $125 per person and VIP tickets for $200 include a private tasting of West Sonoma Coast Vintners (Failla, Peay, Red Car, Freestone, Evening Land and Freeman) and select wines by Domaine Serene. Plus start the celebration early with artisan cheeses from Murray's Cheese and a sustainable oyster station.

Savor Event Brings Chefs To California's Central Coast

California's Central Coast is the location for a four-day food and wine event hosted by Sunset Magazine. "Sunset Magazine's SAVOR The Central Coast" is being held September 30 - October 3. Sunset's editors and celebrity chefs will guide attendees through culinary tours, winemaker dinners, historic excursions, and more ,exploring the agriculturally rich area in detail. The Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch team will be part of the Savor event making sure that all of the seafood served at the event will be ocean-friendly. There will also be a backyard chicken coop with Cal Poly's chickens on display.

The event opens on September 30 with a VIP reception and opening night event. October 1 is given over to culinary tours to local food and wine purveyors including the Morro Bay Oyster Company, Escuela Ranch and Ancient Peaks Winery and Vineyards. Tours are $50 each. The Main event at Santa Margherita Ranch is open October 2 and 3 and includes a variety of events including chef Tyler Florence preparing his famous seafood cioppino. On October 2 in the evening, the Paso Glow event will turn Paso Robles' City Park into illuminated festival of food and wine. The event ends on Sunday with a Chris Isaak Concert and Fireworks finale at the Avila Beach Golf Resort. Events are already selling out fast so book soon on the Savor Central Coast website.

Beaver Creek Culinary Classic

Being a celebrity chef is not a bad life indeed. While many chefs will be golfing and soaking up the sun in South Beach later this month, others are at Beaver Creek in Colorado this week. The Beaver Creek Culinary Classic runs from February 1-5, 2006 and features Eric Ripert, Ming Tsai, Laurent Tourondel and many others. Special events include the Celebrity Chef Ski Race on February 3, pastry competitions including the Cake Relay and the Sugar Showdown which will be filmed by the Food Network, a 'Master Chef Challenge' and the Grand Tasting at the Park Hyatt Resort and Spa on Saturday February 4. Tickets to the Grand Tasting cost $95.
