Coveted Cuffs at BG's

braceletIn my personal opinion, cuff bracelets are so much more fashionable and enjoyable than bangles will ever be. Cuffs stay put on your wrist, add punch to any ensemble, and carry a certain strength inherent in their design. In celebration of fantastic cuffs I've highlighted those currently available at Bergdorf Goodman. From simple and sleek to colorful and creative each cuff brings a unique sense of style to the wearer. Designers such as Joan Hornig, Jose & Maria Barrera, Kenneth Jay Lane and Matthew Campbell offer the current coveted cuffs at BG's. Explore the gallery to see more!

(The cuff shown above is designed by Matthew Campbell made of rhodium-plated silver with blue enamel accented with round-cut blue sapphire stones and center citrine stone for $1,800).

Gold Vermeil Bug on a Cuff

Sometimes I write about things because I love them, and sometimes because I hate them but they're just too crazy to pass up. This Shagreen Cuff with Gold Vermeil Bug falls somewhere in the middle. I love cuff bracelets, and usually I go for unusual pieces but this large insect is just a little too creepy -- look at the size of the fangs! Maybe it would work with a goth ensemble?

The cuff, however, is a beautifully textured gray shagreen, and the insect is 14k gold and decorated with rubies, sapphires, green agates, and crystals. $1,450

Crystal Crater Bracelet

Bold and beautiful, the Crystal Crater Bracelet from Subversive Jewelry is a nice balance of earthiness and glitz. Large brass discs sit haphazardly on a wide cuff, and then an unexpectedly large crystal sits off-center to one side -- adding a little glamor to an otherwise purely organic vibe. Dress it up or dress it down, this cuff is sure to make your outfit. And spark some curiousity, too...what do you think was the inspiration behind it? Made of brass, it measures 2 1/2" wide with a 2 1/2" adjustable diameter. $1195

John Hardy Palu Cuff

Master silversmith John Hardy must be inspired by the beautiful surroundings of his design studio in Bali. There, his jewelry designs are made reality by expert craftsmen, many of them descendants of the artisans who made jewelry for the royal courts of Bali. This striking bracelet is made from 22k yellow gold, hammered and curved into an elegant cuff. Using ancient Balinese techniques, sterling silver is hand-carved into a chain pattern, trimming the edges of the cuff. It's a beautiful take on a classic design that goes with everything and never goes out of style. $1995.

Carved Lapis Beetle Cuff

For those who like the look of a bejeweled insect, but don't want to be bothered with feeding and caring to a live one - not to mention the slightly unnerving sensation of it crawling around on your skin - an alternative is available. The Carved Lapis Beetle Cuff, designed by Nancey Chapman, features a stunning lapis beetle on a 24-karat gold cuff. The designer says that the cuff was inspired by a trip to Egypt, where the symbol of the scarab beetle is sacrad. The cuff is 3" wide and the beetle, which is carved from a solid piece of stone, is 2.5." A fringe benefit is that it will last quite a bit longer than the living version would. Price: $23,000.

Cork Cuff

We already knew that cork was getting fashionable, and we've seen it in both handbags and shoes, but one area we never expected to see it was jewelry. This is because the new technologies developed for processing cork have been focus on making it more like fabric or leather and less like... cork. This Cork Cuff makes no bones about its origin. Each piece is carved from a single block of cork is made from recycled product. The cork blocks are individually numbered and included in the purchase of the cuff for storage and/or display. The cuffs come in one size only, but are flexible (not to mention water repellent) and will fit most men's and women's wrists. Price: $48.
